215/50/16, cheaper than the 225 but still a lil better than stock width performance wise. 50 cause it'll still ride smooth but is just thick enough to protect your rims from getting dented.

btw-i like those rims i sold mine to my friend with a b16 crx, cause i thought i was selling my cl now i wish i still had them. I think I'm gonna get the same ones only in bronze. You should too

ok, just to clarify... first number is the diameter of the tire and the second number is the width?

seems like 215/45 or 50/16 is the majority choice.

im getting it from groupbuycenter. they have a good deal going for 465 shipped. yea, i wanted to get sports bronze, but its pretty hard to find. they said they could order bronze, but it would take 6-8 weeks not guarantteed. also, the rota bronze looks a little lighter than i'd like it.

45 is good in what sense?

I just did a search from tires.com and tirerack.com and it seems that 215 series tires are much more expensive and limited than the 205 series tires. what are the advantages?

The first number is the width of the tire in millimeters. The second number is a ratio. Take that percent of the tire width and you have the height of one sidewall.

For example: a 215/50 is 215mm wide and 107.5mm sidewall height. A 215/45 is only 96.75mm high per sidewall. This means the overall diameter of the wheel and tire is 0.84" smaller than the 215/50.

It's best not to alter the overall diameter. Our stock size is 24.88". A 215/50 would make it 24.46" - slightly smaller than stock. A 215/45 would make it 23.62 - a poor choice, more than 1" off stock. A 225/50 would be 24.86" - closest to stock.

hmm... so 225/50/16 is wider than 215/50/16, with about the same diameter as the stock wheels/tires?

Yep. Some of the other guys will have to vouch if it will fit on the stock wheels (or wheels with equal offset) without rubbing on anything. Dropped cars might have other problems too, idk.

I would guess it's relative to the percent difference. Not sure tho.

I'm pretty the 205/55 and the 215/45 are almost the same height....I'm talking under 5 cm, so that's what I'd go for...the more rubber the better in my book.

According to tires.com, the 225/50s come in much more variety and are actually cheaper than the 215/50s. Why is that? Does running a wider tire such as 225 opposed to the stock 205 affect the driving performance in a negative way?

it does... if you don't have any whp... i.e my car more rubber on the ground from the larger tire means more friction created = you slow down faster when off the gas or on the gas, so sometimes if feels like ur slow... and you use a bit more fuel when driving so gas mileage goes down just a tad.

other than that the benefits are nice more rubber on ground better traction and turning. i run 225/40-18... I would go with what d98clturbo is going the 225/50-16.

lol im suprised that no one else posted this... every time a tire question pops up someone posts the link and gets praised for being a genius

always a good link to post. perhaps this link should be in the newb must read section if it isn't already.
