which way to reset ecu?
Hey all,
Which way do I reset the ecu, I have a check engine light that just came on like 2 days ago and I want to reset the ecu to see if it come back on. I've heard of 3 different ways...
1) disconnect the battery for a period of time and reconnect it.
2) Under the hood where the fuses are, remove the 7.5A fuse then replace it.
3) Remove the #13 fuse on the passenger side, and replace it.
Also, when I bought the car the guy said there was a code I had to put in whenever I change or disconnect teh batter, I guess like a security feature, I think it's a 6 digit #, is this true, and how do I put this code in?

Removing the BackUp fuse ( 7.5A fuse) is easiest reset method. Disconnecting negative battery post works also. Both are equally effective.
Make sure you have the radio code before resetting, otherwise you'll have no radio until you can supply the code.
good luck

how do I put in the code...
So the code that the guy was talking about is a security feature for the bose stereo system if I disconnect the battery or head unit, so how do I put the code in?
Is there any advantage with keeping the Bose cd/radio head unit and putting in an aftermarket cd player...the reason I ask is mine's not playing cd's, it tries to play the cd cause yo u can hear it, but then an error comes up of PE0, someone said to remove the head unit and clean the laser lense, but I'm not sure how to remove the head unit.
I'm also assuming that after I remove it I'll need that code, just out of curiousity if the battery was disconnected, could the radio work without the code but prevent the cd player from working?

once you find the code which should be with your manual on a white plastic card you enter the numbers using the radio preset buttons which go 1-6 across the radio. Just type in the correct numbers and you should be good to go. For exapmle mine is "25516" (sadly I have it memorized) I enter that I hear a beep and then my radio works but the bad thing is that I lose my preset radio stations but since I hate the radio and NEVER listen to it that doesn't bother me. The PEO error is the one that means you need to enter the security code.

Yes the code IS the security feture for the radio. Without it, nothing will work. There is a lot of threads here that shows you how to get to the radio. Just do a search. It involves taking out a few screws here and there and voila, the center console is out. If you don't have the code for your radio, there is a serial# sticker on the radio it self. Jot that # down as well as the car's VIN# and take it or call to your local Acura dealer. They should be able to get the code that way. Good Luck!
