Which way does your subwoofer fire?

Has or does anybody have a sub box with the sub firing thru the ski pass-thru?

Reason I ask is I have a 12" JL (one) in a sealed enclosure facing the trunk of my car and there's a lot of rattling.

i have mine facing trunk. facing towards front isn't nearly as loud. I've tried almost everything, 1 12, 2 10's, 2 12", another set of 12" all tried front and back. Facing trunk always yields the better result.

I have 2 Bazooka tubes and both of them face the back of the car. When I had it installed, the guy who did it told me that you will get better sound b/c it will fill the whole trunk with bass. He did try it several ways, but facing the trunk had the best sound.....

Fire it towards the back of the car. Doing that raises the pressure, basically making it louder. I tried firing my Infinity Perfect 12 through the ski door, and it just doesnt sound as good, and the armrest has to me down all the time.

if you want to stop the rattling, go to any audioshop, they sell big pieces of rubber that are all sticky on the back, and you can stick it against the trunk. i think its called dynomat or soemthing like that

facing the trunk will produce the best results as far as bass goes...I wouldn't think of it any other way...although my friend had 4 12'S facing up in a ported box in his 4runner...and it hit at least 145 db's...but it was in competition with the box specifically made for loudness and pressure...in essense the box is like the engine for ur subs...because its the box that just like the engine that produces its power...well at least sort of in that aspect...no matter wat amp or subs they wont perform well unless ur box is made right

I used to have a 98 4Runner and had one 12" Alpine Type X in a box that I built with Rockord Fosgate Power subs specs. It was a slot ported enclosure and I metered it at 147.2 becibels. The best audio performance is to face it towards the back of the vehicle in your situation if you want it to sound good inside your care. But if you'ld rather have everyone else outside your car enjoy your spent money then face it forward. I have a 97 CL and it rattled like crazy. Even as a ex-certified proffesional it took me alot of dynamat and time to finally minimize it. Prepare to pretty much gutt the rear of your car and take down your head liner.

1st, this thread is from 2001...

2nd, I have to call your 147.2db into question. That's extremely loud for a single 12, and yes, I've done quite a bit of competing myself, and I know that 4runners are in fact pretty loud trucks. How was it metered? What sensor?

3rd, firing to the rear in a CL will net more rattles than firing forward. Trust me, I've done both. With my forward firing setup, it was not only louder on the meter but also sounded better to the ear and had less rattles.

if you face them towards the seat the seat bafffles the sound, especially if you have them really close to the back of the back seat. That is why facing them towards the rear of the car sounds better because the bass is bouncing around in the trunk, which makes it sound louder. I have my jl 13 facing towards the rear of the car and I had no rattles except for the cover in the back window where the 3rd brake light is mounted, I just fixed that board so it wouldn't rattle and fixed that. I also placed foam under the tag so it didn't rattle on the outside either so I hear no rattles inside or out any longer but I do not enter competitions or anything any longer and also don't try to get the whole neighborhood to know when I crank my car every time I crank it either. I do listen to it loud at times, just not all the time
