Warmup

I just remembered back when i was like 5, my dad and I would always wash his car, and he'd explain the importance of 3 things that you need to do to cars:

1- Wash it...cars like to be clean
2- feed it... Gas and Oil
3- Warm it up... let it just chill in idle for a min. or two before you drive it off..

Do I really need to do the last one? Turn on the car, and let it just sit there, "warming up"....i mean, i plan on doing it nowadays, so the car is nice and warm when i get in it, and my hands dont freeze to the steering wheel, but does it help the car at all? (or does is just burn gas?)
Thx
David

you only need to idle for about 1 min if it's really cold outside. otherwise it doesn't really matter.
