vtec kicks in when?

I think that I've seen posted here that the vtec doesn't come on until 5,000 RPM? Doesn't seem possible that it would be that high, but in my 2.3CL it FEELS like 3,000 RPM. Any difinitive word or source from the factory on this?

thanks

Start up your car. Make sure your car is warmed up. Step on the accelerator with a constant pressure (smooth pressure, while in neutral). Watch the RPM's. When the RPM's jump, thats when your Vtec kicks in. I think on Inline 4's, it is at 5,000 RPM.

it's around 4000rpms. Think about it, redline in our car is 6000rpm and peak power is at 5500rpm. Vtec would be useless then. In the dohc engines it kicks in a little over 5000rpm but their redline is much higher
