Valve adjustment

Anybody here adjust their own valves? Finally got around to doing mine on my 2.2 5spd.
Couple of things that bother me....
1) I found myself removing the dipstick to get to a bolt on the timing chain cover.
2) That bolt was in a threaded insert, which of course would rather break the surrounding plastic than let the bolt turn.

Anybody else have these problems?

I know that adjusting valves can be a rather complicated thing, so I just take mine to someone that knows what they are doing. Id rather pay a little bit of money than to have my car all f'ed up.

You underestimate the ability of the dealer to f*#@ up your car.
I know the car is all right now, with a dealer you wouldn't know until you took it back in again (witness all the guys with the CELs).

I hope you're not insinuating that
1) I don't know what I'm doing or
2) My car is in any way messed up

I think what he meant is that _HE_ would rather not do it _HIMSELF_ for fear of doing an improper job, and that _HE'D_ rather have peace of mind by letting someone who knows what they're doing actually perform the adjustment.

I watched my buddy do a valve adjustment on mine, all he did was remove the valve cover and he took the feeler gauge and ran inbetween the valves and since they did not need adjusting, he just put the new valve cover gasket on and bolted everything back up. Now actually having to adjust them, if you really need to know I can ask him and get back to you.
