I'm thinking about upgrading the exhaust system to free up some horsies (poor them ) lol...

I have a 97 3.0. I wanna get a Magnaflow + custom piping installed. I need to know what size/diameter means in terms of fitment, sound and power gain...example: 2.25" Inlet, 3.5" Diam. will this fit my 3.0? If not, which size should i get? I don't want to sound like a fart can like the civics and impalas around the neighborhood, just a discreet, low pitch rumble... do i need a resonator(?) What is the difference in power gain between a 3" and 4" diameter? What is your current Magnaflow set up? How does it sound?

And how much a custom piping job runs? What do i ask the shop for? any recommended shops in Orange, CA? How long would it take to do this?

I forgot, is there any advantage of dual tip over single tip? Is it true that the bigger the muffler, the louder the sound? Thanks

I go to them EVERY single time I need something cut n welded or even custom piping (like i did for my cl & piping for the hatch) They do mandral bends not the crappy crush bends. Price is decent.

I put on a 5 zigen fireball muffler & 2.5 piping. My car isnt' that loud at all. I have a silencer but I don't need to put it on/ well i haven't put it on. It's only loud when i punch it. I have a 22 in resonator & a car sound cat on it.

Are you planning on putting a resonator on it? Prolly be a good idea if you don't want to sound like a weed wacker.

 

you want a 2.5'' pipe job at least... magnaflow muffler and 22'' resonator will do the trick for sound control... also, grab a hi-flow cat and open up that bottleneck too.. no one ever thinks about that I think

n that location is in la puente. Might be kind of a drive for you but it's worth it imo.

Man it's been a while. From what I remember

- cat was $60.
- 22 resonator $70
- I had my 5 zigen muffler taken off from my hatchback
- Full piping from header back was $150
* but you have to remember that it's this price b/c they have to cut & fit the piping 3 times. It's 3 seperate pieces that they put together to weld on or flange on the cat / ressonator / muffler.

(make sure it's madrel (sp?) bends & not crush bends. Crush bends make your exhaust sound like a weed wacker (no joke) it sounded like shit on my hatchback b/c I took it to some run down welding place to get it put on the first time like 4 years ago Since then I learned better )

i got piping done for mine from the flexpipe behind the stock resonator for $60, also chopped off the stock muffler and put on the magnaflow 14815 for $35. Piping was mandrel bent, just shop around. I went to one shop they wanted 130, then went down the road to another shop and they only wanted 95.
