The Ultimate Tranny Problem List
Did a search and don't see any type of post like this.
I thought it would be interesting to see a master post showing some stats on when people's 3.0 tranny's are crapping out. If you've replaced yours, list how many miles you had on it, was the replacement new or rebuilt, who did the work, and how many miles you have on the current one, any current problems, etc.
For those having problems, just post your current miles and brief description. I don't need to see 2nd gen. tranny issues - that's another thing.
84k - Tranny slow to downshift at times, random tranny shifting confusion.

You musta' read my "tranny bla bla" thread.
I have seen another thread on here that kind of sums up what you are talking about "Trans problem summaries", but at the time, didn't think I would ever be part of THAT club. How wrong I was.

Mine was exactly like yours. Ended up giving out at exactly 85K. Had changed out (flushed) my trans fluid 2 times earlier, as well (because the tranny isues I'd heard about). That didn't do any good. Waste of about 200 bucks.
If you don't have the 100,000 mi. warranty, get ready to bend over. Mine did the same, for a while (2nd 3rd gear - shifty). When it gave out, It was like a gernade. DONE! Good Luck.

aourn 64k after i bought it from the dealer. loud ping when shifted in reverse sometimes. shifting was ok but started to slip occasionally. well i was suppose to bring it in the day after my tranny blew. luckly mine blew and was stuck in second gear for about 2 miles. i was on the same road the dealer was on so when it went i drove it up there and my dad was already on the phone bitching them out. this happened two weeks after i got the car. and they put in a tranny for free but in the process the guys in the back fucked up my passenger side so then they had to fix that side which was never done properly

ENGAGE MY VTEC BABY!!!!!!
i had mine done at 75K
it was slipping and then finally wouldnt go anywhere in any gear
it vost me 2300 to fully rebuild it, new clutch plates, tourque convertor, bearsing and all, with i think redline tranny fluid if im not mistaken
here is a pic of the clutch plates that i kept, you can see how burnt up they are as well as the sensor that got replaced too
(sensor)
here is the clutch packs
1st-2nd
2nd to 3rd
3rd to 4th and then overdrive
just to give you a picture look at 3rd, you can tell much i used D3

Do you guys think I should change out (flush) the fluid in my NEW tranny after a few thousand miles?
I was thinking of doing it after a "settling in" period. Might not help, but thought I'd ask you guys anyway.
Then, I don't think I'm bothering with flushing anymore.

Did you have to buy alot of special tools to do the job? Or do the clutch packs come out pretty straight forward for replacement?
I hav the manual and am tempted to go this route if or when I my waranty doesn't cover me.

Peace, Love & Acura
Looks complicated....
2nd Transmission, first went at roughly 96.000 miles, I replaced it in September of 04 and now I have 107,000+ miles. I plan to flush in Sptember. I figure an anual flush can't hurt... And it falls into the 15,000 mile sevice schedule. The cost was around $2,000. Before changing it, the car shifted eraticly at low speeds, and slipped from 3 to 4. Then 4 went away totally. 3 was going fast when I took it in. I did try a flush, but the fluid was graphite colored, it was too late. 4th failed two days after the flush. I had owned the car for one month when this happened. My first sign was while passing on the interstate... 80 mph, went to pass, dropped to 3rd like normal. then when the car went to shift into 4th again, the RPMs shot up from 4K to 6,200.... Then it went on into 4th. I knew that was a bad sign. And soon it went on to failure. Good luck with the survey.

I don't know where to get them, but yes they are the shit ! They are very strong, you can pump in alot more horsepower and the kevlar clutch packs will handle it !

Still on my first tranny. Car has just under 59K miles. Unfortunately, the tranny is DYING. Gears are slipping, car jolts like crazy, etc. etc. etc. Same like everyone elses. Taking it in tomorrow to see what can be done.
So anyone from NJ have a good but inexpensive place to have a tranny rebuilt. How much does a new tranny cost with labor?

Brought my car this afternoon to my mechanic (long time friend of the family). He's ordering me a remanufactured tranny directly from Honda/Acura. It's gonna run me $1500 with labor. What a relief, I was expecting to dish out much more. I guess it pays to know people.

Of course with my GREAT LUCK, I get screwed again. I had a feeling it was too good to be true.
Turns out, he can't get the tranny from Acura, cause they are saying they don't sell them anymore. You have to go through the dealer. BS. So I called the dealer and found out they can't buy directly from the manufacturer because the manufacturer doesn't do rebuilds anymore. They use Howard Engineering in CA. So I called Howard and by mistake, they thought I was a dealer/shop owner so they gave me dealer/shop onwer cost on the tranny.
So to make a long story short, I ended up calling one more mechanic who I completely forgot about. He's my close friend's cousin and has actually done some work to my car. He deals with Jasper (which is the nation's largest remanufacturer of gas and diesel engines, transmissions, etc., according to their website). He also calls another Acura dealer which tells him that they CAN get a tranny from American Honda, but the warranty only covers parts and not parts and labor. So I'm gonna have this mechanic replace my tranny with one from Jasper. I'm getting a 36 mo./75,000 mi. warranty on parts and labor.
His cost is $2500 for the tranny and he's charging me $3000 installed. Not what I wanted to spend, but what am I gonna do. Oh well.
Now I'm part of the 2nd Tranny Club. NICE.

Well I'm creeping up to 85k and need to drive to Montana (about 1,300 miles round trip).
Renting a car as I don't want to get stuck in the middle of no mans land with a crapped out tranny, getting it towed who knows how many miles, and having some shop replace it with out of state warranty work. It has been running flawless this week.
Guess it's worth the $210 for the peace of mind but it still irritates me.

Took my car to aamco, they say i definately need a rebuilt tranny At least someone finally diagnosed the problem, the first guy i took it to lied to me, cuz he doesn't work on imports, domestics only. He told me it was fine, and just drive it till it breaks. Aamco is going to start rippin apart my tranny on monday, the estimate is 2 grand for a rebuilt tranny
