Transmission help for my 98 acura 2.3 cl
Hey guys I'm having problems with my tranny so i poured some lucas oil transmission fix as a last ditch effort anyway long story short i feel the transmission having problems and needing to be replaced soon.
I opted out of a rebuild because 1 its more expensive and 2 i read that most places don't even have the necesarry equipment to diagnose all the parts.
Anyway my question is which is the most reliable transmission i can put in this car? Even if its a manual i kinda actually want a manual instead. I also want a transmission with the lowest rpms in the last gear as i do alot of highway driving.
Also, i read on some other threads about the automatic transmissions needing an atf cooler, doesn't the radiator cool the transmission?? Even when i typed in atf cooler it looked like a regular radiator lol i dont get it.
Anyway thanks for the help.

The rad does cool the tranny fluid but an external cooler will cool it more I guess. If you're 2.3, swapping to manual isn't too hard. If you can manage to find a crashed CL or something just go pull all the parts you need and change it over, it's pretty straightforward and it'll be a lot more reliable and fun for you than the automatics. You also get the 5th gear which is nice for the highway, but I don't really remember how long the gears were in the auto.

I don't know what's involved with changing the cruise control over actually, I never got around to doing it so I'm still without cruise control lol.
And like an Accord manual from a 6th gen is going to be the exact same transmission as in the CL, and getting it out of other cars would be getting more complicated to rig something up to fit it. If you want something easy to do to save money it's best to just get the tranny from a CL or Accord since the car was meant for it and it just goes right in.

Yeah I made up my mind especially after watching some fast and furious lol. Quick question the acura manual do you have to give it gas in 1st gear before you let go of the clutch? Because my friend used to have a talon and he could just pop it in gear and just let go the clutch and the car would roll and not shut off.
Also what year manual should I get? I read some post on honda tech about the 98-02 transmissions having problems. Im sure its the same tranny they use in the accords is in the acura too.
Thanks

98-02 accord 4cyl has the same engine/tranny as us so it's fine, the problems with them generally is with the automatics. For the 6 speed, nothing that I know of for the 4 cylinders that won't require a lot of work.
And no, technically you don't need gas to get going if you let the clutch out slow enough.
