Tranny code thrown for 3.0CL

I have a 3.0CL that reccently threw out P0740 code.. I've searched and it comes up with usually a solenoid problem or something similar.. I want to kind of get a better understanding for this and approximately how much it costs to repair.. I havent changed my tranny fluid since I bought the car a year ago.. how much would it be to replace a solenoid etc.? Whats the worst this code could mean and basically how much is it to fix.. also.. does this mean my trannys going bye bye, because it still feels very strong when going into gears and doesnt seem to have any grinding issues whatsoever.

I got a P0740 over the weekend too - 1998 3.0CL

The car slips while shifting into 3rd and 4th.

Also, a couple times I give the car gas and it goes nowhere. I happened to be near an AAMCO when the symptoms first presented themslves, so I left it there. They want to rebuild it for ~$1500 and a torque converter for $400 - thats the minimum assuming they don't open it up and find something worse inside.

I have about 190K miles on the car. I'm not really trusting their estimate But I don't have any personal transmission shop recommendations to go by. What if I only need a torque converter or its some less expensive sensor, etc..

They're still most likely gonna rebuild the internals and steels, they'll do that b4 the TC.

I called the local Acura dealer (Motorcars Acura in Bedford, OH) and when I mentioned P0740 the service rep instantly said I needed a new transmission. Claimed they called it "the death code" around the shop. He said Acura only sends them new transmissions which are very expensive, so he recommended a transmission shop they send customers to who need a rebuild. Guess I'll be stopping by for a second opinion.

I have 130k, I have no slipping and my car moves just fine im guessing for me it could be minor because i read up on this and typically it should be much more severe.. but thanks for an idea of how much it could cost ultimately.

i also dont think my trannys going out yet.. because it still is pretty strong.. i have occasional jolts but not as bad as other CL's ive driven but lemme know if im wrong
