Tranny change
I was wondering what the procedures are for changing my own tranny fluid. Like what parts will I need, probably drain plug, etc...and of course honda ATF. If anyone has a Helms manual, pics would be great.
~ Thanks,

Unless you have some sort of pump, you can't change your own auto tranny fluid because auto trannies retain half of the old fluid inside the housing. You gotta get it flushed someplace... just opening it up, draining what comes out, and topping it off isn't going to help.
Score one for the manual guys.

I've heard Flushing the tranny can lead to problems like clogging the throttle body etc... It diffenently seems that the tranny flush and fills are a touchy subject.

My Acura dealer told me that a flush was a bad idea. I called another Acura dealer and they offered me the flush. Everyone I ask has very different opinions. I've even heard that if a vehicle has more than like 90K you should not touch the tranny fluid if it's never been changed. Due to particles that may be bonded to parts in the tranny and once they are flushed then the areas are weakened. yadayadayada... I have near 63K and I doubt the tranny fluid has ever been changed. The fluid appears fine, the tranny is fine, but I just want to do a little preventative maintenence.

I had the dealer flush my tranny @ 60,000 miles, and I've noticed no difference at all! It's like they didn't do anthing (although I watched them flush it, so I know that they did).
I've put 10,000 miles on the car since the flush, and everything has been ok {knocking on wood}.

If you notice a big difference after a tranny oil change, then you've got big problems! It's like noticing a huge improvement in engine performance after changing the engine oil... the old oil must've been really old!
Particles bonded to parts in the tranny? Removing those particles by flushing the tranny? That weakening the tranny? It's not like flushing the tranny is some kind of high pressure spray... it just circulates a bunch of the fluid through the system.
That's total dealer BS... wonder why they would even tell you that.
