tranmission question.

Hi im new to the fourm and had some questions.
I just bought a 98 cl with 130000 miles, on it and My transmission was sliiping very mildly,
I had my local machanic change the fluild the other day, and it started slipping very badly the past 2 days. usully between 1-2 gear 0-40 after that its fine.
now Im thinking im going ot have to get a new transmission?
Im wondering if that correct and how much they run, it there any fix i can do to keep me from having to do it right away?
Is the dealer the right way to go or a local place ?

And also, sometimes it wont fully start.
Is this cause of the transmission?
this started happening after the fluild was changed and the transmission started getting really shitty.

any help would be great thanks.

Would the transmission cause the car not to start sometimes?

the not starting sometimes could be anything.. does it try to start then stumbles and dies or does it not turn over at all. or what? as for the tranny, go to aamco, theyll do it for about 3000$ but that has a lifetime warranty. acura will get atleast 5g's out of you. sounds like the mechanic did a flush which is murder on these trannies. atleast you got it cheap. do you have a check engine light at all or is the d4 shift indicator on the dash blinking?

The car s, and chtarting probably is a seperate issue, check your battery voltage and charging/starting systems. And just to correct will, the aamco is a 12 month/12K mile warranty, and they suck but they're probably the easiest to find.

I just got a quote from the acura dealer and they want 2500-3000 to do the tranny.
I think the startin issue might have something to do with the new battery I just put in cause it didnt do it before I changed the battery.

You can find a good used transmission, parts & labor warranty for 6-12 months, and installation for perhaps 1/2 of Acura quote. I've done this for a Dodge Ram 1500 engine, but not a transmission, however early next year I'm planning to replace my 97 2.5TL trans (faulty torque converter lockup function) w/ a used trans using this plan. You need to find a good, reliable installer and obtain firm price for removal/installation, and then locate a good used transmission (car-part.com search using your zip code to find local sources). I traveled to each source to look at the used part and obtained vin code of donor car to confirm mileage/history of the donor.

good luck

be careful with the dealership, cause they will throw things at you.. like ooh you need new sensors (1000$) and ooh, you need new torque converter 500$ or your ecu is toast 1800$.

its going to the dealer for the transmission replacement. tommorrow.
how long does it usually take them to do the transmission?

im gonna ge tthem to also check the charging system cause something is draing the battery to lose charge and its a brand new battery.
I think it might be the glove box cause the light dosent go off.

kind of like the refridgorator door huh?

be careful most dealerships go out of thier way to charge for extra crap.. so if they try telling you the alternator is bad, or the new battery you just put in is bad, be cautious cause your lookin at a pretty hefty price tag.

it should take them about a week to get the tranny swapped out.. are they totally replacing yours?

There putting in an acura certified transmission
with a 3 year/ 36000 mile warranty.
The starting thing was fixed, the dealer said when i installed the battery, I put those felt washers on the terminals, and they kept the positive terminal from bolting all the way on and it was losing connection there thus causing it to fail to start sometimes.

as for the transmission they want 4200.
and the engine got a 15 point inspection and was 100%
