Question TPS - Throttle Position Sensor, Questions

Does anyone know how to clean or change the throttle position sensor. I noticed that they have the break off bolts, so you cannot just unscrew it. How would i go about getting these bolts out and if i drill them out can i get normal screws to put back in? Has anyone on here cleaned theirs?

i got this one,

take a dremel and cut the screws, so that a flathead scorewdriver can unscrew them. you can reuse them too if you really want.

they arent screws they are rivvets. no threads. you have to change the entire throttle body.

Is it different from 97 to 98 or from 2.x to 3.0? Just curious, it is possible that you are both right. Oh, you should have called this thread... "TPS report with no cover sheet."

It seems like different year CLs have different screws/rivets. I have screws and even though i cleaned my throttle body the stoblem still persists on my H22. Tonight im taking off the throttle body off again, removing the screws to remove the TPS and dipping the throttle body in a bucket of brake fluid and leaving it overnight. People say it works like a charm. I already cleaned the throttle body and idle air control with cleaner for it but problem still persists on TPS. I later changed my TPS (one on old engine) and problem was the same. There are 2 small ports that lead to TPS chamber. I'm guessing thats the problem.

make sure you take off all things that have rubber gaskets. cause the brake fluid will weaken that shit up.

In my case Ill have a power lose. For instance at times ill rev to 3k and as im letting go of the clutch RPMs drop and as im giving it more gas to maybe get the rpms it kicks in too hard.

want to bump this thread up. I have the replacement tps sensor in-hand, but it appears I have the 'rivets' on the stock one as well. Is there any truth to having to replace the entire throttle body and not being able to 'just' change out the tps sensor?

halp!

I don't know the answer, but I know people have replaced their TPS sensor, not sure about the rivets

^^ thanks broski...yeah I have no clue either...I heard there's no 'threading' in the holes...so perhaps the only way around it is to use oversized self-tapping screws

I'll try and update this thread with my findings

can you not drill out the rivets and then replace them with new rivets?

If you are doing that kind of thing you are probably taking that whole assembly off of the car first and you can clean all of the debris out before you put it back on.

Also rather than using self tapping screws it's allot nicer to buy a tap and corresponding drill bit in a size used on other bolts in the assembly. Then you can just use normal metric fasteners.

I know nothing of the 3.0, but I hope that helps.

they are brake off heads because of the adjustment on the 2.2. new tps comes with new bolds so drill out heads, remove sensor, remove screw posts and install new tps.
