Torque wrench

Has anyone bought a torque wrench lately? Just wondering what I should expect to pay for when I'm ready to put my rims on. Good place to get one (not on the net, I want to see it in person) Sears, Home Depot, Menards, Lowes? Also, don't want to spend too much $. Thanks

I would get a craftsman torque wrench. They are around $80.00 give or take. Lifetime warranty, and any torque wrench can get out of adjustment or break easier that a regular wrench. Once you get one you will use more than you think. I have broke a cheap wrench before, out $50.00

CRAP I wish I would have thought about it when I bought my rims and tires from tirerack. They have a decent looking one for $29.99. Should have just added it to my order

Proto

I bought a Proto about 20 years ago for about 100 bucks and it is still in calibration today. For just wheels, don't go too far out. The 29 bucker sounds like a good price for the light usage of wheel torque.

The craftsman is the best cheapest one I have found. Unless you wanna chase a Snap on truck.

Well I figured I should get my own cause I'll probably be the one doing the rotating and then putting the stocks back on when winter comes.

You shouldn't have to give the tire shops a $5 because they're supposed to do that for you anyway!

Of course, this isn't always the case... just for kicks, I took my torque wrench (Craftsman, but not the clicky kind) to my wheels after it came back from getting a tire repaired and it went off the meter... over 150 ft lbs. Took two people to undo the nuts.

Yeah, I immediately retorqued everything. I was pissed that they were careless enough to leave their gun set at such a high torque.
