Get yourself a thread die (i think they are called dies could be wrong). Find out what size the threads are (check the ebay auction or ask the guy) and use the die to cut the proper thread. Someone on this board did the cut threads method and it worked perfectly.

I tried to search but i couldn't find it. It is a post and he includes step by step instructions and pictures of how to do it. Lots of info in that post, it almost inspired me to do the same to shorten the throw but i'm lazy

Pretty simple process. If you don't have a set of taps/dies go get one and find out what size you need. If its larger than factory (which i'm pretty sure is 10mm), then you can always cut off the top thread and thread the lower part (which will also give you a short shifter). Easiest way to do that would be cut a carboard box to catch sparks and use a dremel with a very nice cutting bit. Then slide the tap on and screw away!
