I used to live in a snow season town and I used to roll custom rides there. In this particular town they used cinder particuls for extra traction when it did snow. So basically not only would I remove the wheels at first sign of snow but I would park my car if I had another to thrash on because that shit will eat up your paint also. Cinder or Salt can harm any nice shit that you have like paint, chrome, aluminum, windshields, etc...... thats all I have to say.

I never had rims before until I bought a 98 CL 2.3 with standard Acura alloys a couple of weeks ago, so I never thought about removing rims in winter(Chicago) until I saw this thread. Do people typically remove these standard alloy rims? If yes, do they just put on standard rims with hub caps or what? Or is this thread more about expensive aftermarket rims?

I guess I'm one of those assholes.

I'm gonna keep mine on this winter. If they end up ruined, I'll probably get new ones in the spring (and I think that I'll pay for them, myself).

Otherwise I'll need to buy 4 stock tires (mine are shot), and get them mounted and balanced. Can't see doing that. :thumbsdn:

Who knows, maybe I'll change my mind.

I'm gonna try to leave them on all winter, but I am going to sporadically drive the CL. I still have the Probe GT and a busted Pathfinder in the garage thats just waiting for some surgery to bring it back to life.

If they get fucked up, I'll just get new ones and a different style next spring.

I wouldn't consider it a "waste". It only snows a couple of times per year around here, which leaves MANY days to still have the CL lookin' good.

Why have my rims in the basement collecting dust?

It only takes my about 30 minutes to swap rims, so if I have advanced storm warning, I can swap them pretty quick.

They don't use cinders much around here, so no worries on rock chips.

BTW: Don't hold your breath on that Zex Kit! :P

What about the tread on those performance tires in a measurable downfall?
I know when I was looking at my Kumhos they weren't even rated for snow.

My Kumhos have much more tread than my stock Michelins.

Should be an interesting drive!

When I got my CL in Aug '01 the dealer put a new set of Firestone Firehawks on.
It's kind of nice going from an new set to brand new set to almost new again and not have to worry about tire wear for quite awhile

Yeah, since it snows maybe once a year here there is no need to change tires. The one time it did last year, I had fun in the snow with the kumhos. The snow gets all packed into the middle grooves, but handles ok, ... fun to slide around though, in some open parking lot or some wide empty roads

Well... in Vermont you better have it together by Thanksgiving because there WILL BE snow on the ground. I garaging my '98 2.3 CL for the winter and going with my '90 Maxima (it has studded snows all around). Don't wait too long to change-over - gets jammed up at the tireshops.
