I dont think you can without the equipment. Ive seen them doing it, they have some battery tester look alike thing, then they have these 2 hose things that go over ur ac lines. Thing is the technical term..

Quick test, close the side vents and put the climate controll on its highest fan setting and the lowest temp possible. Take a stick thermometer and test the air coming from the center dash vent. It should be around 45 degrees on max cool.

Under the hood, feel the high side lines, they will be very cold and wet (depending on relative humidity). feel the low side, they will be very warm and dry. If either is not as described, you may be low on 134a.

Find the sight glass. While the compressor is running, shine a flashlight on the sight glass and watch for bubbles. If there are a large number of them, you may be low on 134a.

With a dyno-preasure guage set, connect the blue to the low side and the red to the high side... Low should run around 14 psi and high should run around 23 psi. High side is caped and up top, low side is capped and down near the front of the radiator. NOTE: be sure the shrader valve fully seals. If you don't, you refrigerant will leak out.

Good luck, hope this helps.
