Temperature issues?

I just notice this happening this past week. My temperature gauge is up 75-80% hot close to overheating when im in stop and go traffic or just sittting at a steady idle after the car is warm, but when im driving at a steady constant or just driving in the city past 20mph my temperature gauge is a the normal temperature. (around 25-30% up from cold)

I checked the radiator fluid and both radiator and the reserve were both full. No leaks.

Any reccomendations????

check to make sure your fan is coming on with the car just sitting there running. it should come on before the temp gets to high. good luck

does anyone know here the thermostat is and how easy it is to change, or would it be better if i just take it to the shop?

If you don't know then you might be better off taking it to a shop. They are fairly easy to replace tho.. Should be a quick/inexpensive fix.

i would change the thermostat first. if thats not it , then i would think that its the water pump. if its the water pump, then you should change the timing belt also.

you might have a coolant leak, try to add some and see if it solves the problem

temp is usually rated by your thermostat.. i think 210 is stock.

my opinion is that it's 95% "stuck" thermostat. your fans are working and you're not losing coolant--which is a dead giveaway for a bad water pump.

always remember when you change your thermostat to change when the car is completly cold or else it radiator fluid will explode all over you.

but it is cheaper than paying to have your warped heads, due to excessive overheating, fixed.

coulda got a Mugen for a few $$ more tho. thermostat should've been <$20. nothing personal but i think your dealer ripped you off.

Thermostats are like under 10 bucks then you need new coolant. Thats under 10 bucks as well. So what it boils down to is 20 bucks and maybe an hour of your time.

So basically it is costing you 25 bucks or more in labor. So if your time and lack of knowledge about your car is worth 25 bucks or more. Then whatever.

Its VERY easy to fix yoruself. You probably could have taken it to an oil change place and they would have done it a lot cheaper...

Most of us refer to dealerships as stealerships for obvious reasons.

I was under the impression the dealership charged $45 for just the thermostat. If it was $45 for the whole job then it's not too bad. They should've replaced the o_ring as well as the lost coolant.

the o-ring comes with the thermostat... Its not an oring, its a gasket.

If they are charging 45 for the thermostat + install = rip off.

if they are charging 45 for thermo + install, thats not to bad at all....But i am much more the DIY guy. Plus then i would have the satisfaction like everything else that is done on my car, i did it myself.

Screw all that! That is outa control. so your looking at 45(part)+probably 10bucks(antifreeze) + 60 bucks for an hour of labor, assuming it only takes them an hour..
Thats 115 bucks for a 10 dollar part.....

Fucking stealerships.
