Teaser Thread . . .

I'm up in Pennsylvania at my Uncle's Audio/Performance Shop.

So far, we've installed a Viper 160XV Remote Starter. We also tied in a Direct Electronics Shock Sensor to the stock alarm (very cool).

I was able to fix my exhaust rattling by removing the bottom heat shield (it hald almost rusted off ).

We're now restringing all new audio wire in the car. I removed my OEM Acura 6-CD changer (which will be listed for sale, soon).

I also took out the OEM head unit, and we're installing a Clarion VRX935VD (DVD/CD/MP3 Fully Motorized 7" Screen w/ Remote). It's fucking cool! http://www.pricescan.com/electronics...p?sid=10000016

I'll have pics (and better descriptions) up when I get back to Maryland tonight (or on Wednesday).

Yeah,

Thought it was time to enter the 21st century and upgrade the sound system. I already have a fairly good amp and killer speakers, but the OEM head unit was the weakest link.

HOLY SHIT!!!! WOW, does my sound system sound great now!!!!!

And the video thing is a real trip! I've seen them quite a number of times in other people's cars (and my Uncle has been installing award winning sound/audio systems for years), but this is the first one for me. It's a fucking trip!!!!!! My daughter is really going to like it ('ya know, watching Sponge Bob DVDs).

I've been cautious about putting money into a sound system because of our weak alarm. The shock sensor will help a little more.

Joey, the total cost of everything (head unit/dvd/mounting kit/wiring, remote starter, shock sensor, and practically free labor by my Uncle) was about $1550. I can't really say what the remote starter cost on it's own.
I'll look on my receipt in the AM (it's in the car).

I'll get pics up, Wednesday evening.

Rick, that head unit is the shit. Great price too.

Any suggestions on how to convince the wife I guess it would be easier to steal the money

The picture is incredible. Very clear.

The head unit is overwhelming! There are literally hundereds/thousands of individual customizations you can do on this thing (mainly audio)! The owner's manual is as thick as some of the software booklets I've gotten with, let's say Microsoft Word.

The remote is as big as some TV remotes!

I love the way that the screen goes into the unit when not needed. The screen is a "touch screen" so it can make many of the customizations by just touching through the menus.

When just playing music, there are graphics, and other helpful items up on the screen to help you customize your sound. You can play CDs/MP3s with or without the screen out of the unit. But damn, when that screen pops up, it's quite impressive.

The DVDs play so freakin' clear, that it's BETTER than in the theater! This will really come in handy when travelling with my daughter. Otherwise, I'm still trying to figure out why I got it, and what use it will have (talking mainly about the DVD part; not the sound system).

Chris: Not sure how to convince the wife. It is a big investment.

Sweet! Nice deck.

I had the older Calrion touchscreen. The 925 but it crapped out on me. It wouldn't spit out the CD. So I bought an Alpine. I hope you have better luck with yours than I had with mine. I'm never buying Clarion again though.

OK

Now the pics.

The first thing accomplished was the removal of the lower heat shield on the cat. I was fully prepared to remove the whole damn exhaust system to get rid of the freakin' rattling! Luckily, all it took was to remove the heat shield. As you can see, three of the mounting locations (indicated by read arrows) were broken off!

Next, My Uncle installed the Viper 160XV Remote starter. Installation was smooth, and there's not much else to say. Here's a pic of there the "brain" is located under the driver's side dash:

After he connected the remote starter wired to the stock alarm system, he added the shock sensor that was recommended by other's on a-cl.com: http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showt...5&pagenumber=1

Unfortunately, the shock sesnor was not sending out a long enough "negative" pulse to trigger the alarm with a single blow to the car.

In it's place, we used a shock sensor made by Direct Electronics (the company that makes Viper, Cobra, etc.) and it worked perfectly.

Here's some pics of the location of the stock alarm system and the new shock sensor:

Next came the Clarion VRX935VD (AM/FM//DVD/Video CD/MP3/CD Player with Motorized 7" LCD Screen). I already had a half decent amp and good speakers, so the head unit install went pretty easy. The main things I didn't like were the loss of the small compartment under the stock head unit and the loss of the 6-CD changer.

Otherwise, I am thrilled with the head unit.

Here are a few pics:

Touch screens do get messy.

Changer Unit mounted on top of ECU.

My "old" amp (notice CD changer is gone).

RCA cables, etc. going under rear seat to amp in trunk.

Night view of "main page" of audio mode.

Here's a link to a short video clip of the head unit: http://www.videodesk.net/show.aspx?u...SF&send_link=1

Here's a 2nd link: http://www.videodesk.net/show.aspx?u...SF&send_link=1

KEEP IN MIND: My camera does NOT take good video!

Good job Nice and clean install. I love the flip up dvd players, they're the shit. I never wanted a touch screen for that same reason, they get messy! So umm.....u gonna put a 15 inch screen in there also? Trust me, they look great!

The remote starter was $150.

melo72: The remote starter and shock sensor was something I had in mind for a while.

Buying the head unit was purely impulsive!

Rick, it may have been your mounting location. I think most of the othe guys mounted theirs up on the pasengerside firewall or the passenger side beside where the rear seat is (under the B-pillar). The floor mounting may be too far away for the other sensor to work (maybe it's not as good as the DEI).

It's good to know the DEI unit works fine tho, as that's what I'll be using. That's what my buddy's shop sells as well, he said I could have one for like $5.

Plug and play!

It simply plugs into the rear of the OEM head unit.
