Tapping noise....
Tapping noise....
It's coming from a little black box kinda near the cruise control unit under the hood. It's a fast tapping like 2-3 times per second. I have no idea what it is. Anyone have a clue?

Relay, probably for your turn sigs or lights, there's a lot of relays around there, as long as it's like a click, not a tapping like your valves
If it is a clicking, that is a vacume driven realay. If I remember correctly, it is part of the emmissions control system. Mine clicks loudly when it is cold out. tica, tica, tica, tica.
The little box is about an inch long and a half in wide and deep and it has two or three wires and a vacume line on it. and on the 3.0 it is sorta by the intake manifold on the back side.
Yes?

Hmmm, cool. Good to know.
If it is a vacumm control relay, there are two things that could be wrong. It could be as easy as the relay, or there could be a puncture in the vacumm line and it is not controling the relay right. Know what i mean?

its not gonna be harmful to your engine, but it will make your car not run right. Replace it.
Ok here it is. I hope someone can tell me what it is before 5:00 pm pacific standard time. I don't know if it's related, but my car has a hard time accelerating from a stop. It hesitates between idle and about 1500 RPM, then it starts moving, but not without an annoying jerk. I don't know if it's engine related or if it's transmission, cause it also hesitates to shift down into first or second.

But what about the relay? Is it messing up the vacuum somehow? Anyone know what the relay is for exactly? The Acura dealership is effing stupid cause they want me to take it out so they can tell what it is. I'm sure that number would tell them, but they wanna play dumb. They made me drive down there one time cause they couldn't find the part I wanted, so I had to go there and point to it. Stupid people wasting my time and gas.
According to the information I found, Denso 136200 is part of the MAP sensor array. It uses vacume from the intake system to provide data to the ecu about intake manifold air preasure. It is normal for it to click, it clicks louder in cold weather. It is fine, unless the ecu throws a MAP sensor failure code.
Hope this helps.

Oh, as for hesitation, this would not cause that. The hesitation in shifting is a warning sign about your transmission. Get ready for a failure. Sorry to give you thsat kind of news, but it is nothing new for the 3.0 CL.

I take back my kiss.
Maybe this is my chance to convert to 5spd...
It comes on strong like a bad case of food poisoning. I found out one day on a trip... I went to pass a car on the highway, and when my car went to shift back into overdrive, the rpms shot fro 3800 to about 6500, then they fell back in line. I knew something was wrong, cause over the next few days, 4th started to shell out, then a week later, 3rd was going. Luckily for me she made it to the shop... 3rd was slipping bad, and she wouldn't even go into 4th. Sad for only owning her for a month when this happened, but at least I got it taken care of and now my whip is snapping tight and right.Good luck and start saving.
