stock stereo question....
ok, i have a stock stereo question....
if i am planning to replace all the speakers in our 98 2.3cl......
is it possible to install an Amp to the stock deck???
my fiance wants to keep her stock cd player....
it's the plain cd deck... not the Bose system.
i heard there may be problems trying to hook an Amp to
that deck?
we're only looking to improve the sound quality by replacing
the speakers, and adding an Amp to the stock unit to add
more power.
also, no subs for us.
any ideas? what's the best way to proceed? is it even
possible with the Amp?

Yes, it is very easily possible with an amp. All you need is an amp with Speaker Level inputs, or a Line Output Converter if the amp does not have the correct inputs. The speaker wires from the stock deck send the sound to the amp, or LOC. Most amps made today, have speaker level inputs.
My suggestion, get some Polk or Infinity 6.5" coaxials for the door and 6x9's for the rear, and keep the stock tweeters in there. Run a 4 channel amp powering everything from the amp...
Theres quite a bit of wirring invloved (if you do it yourself) but there is whats called "Speedwire" available, it has wires for all 4 speakers + and - and a remote turn on wire in one jacket... its pretty slick stuff and it is a HUGE help.

thanks for the input sumkid!
why would you leave the stock tweeters in there?
are they hard to get to on your own? i assumed
that everyone would want to upgrade every component
of the speakers.
if i can manage to hook up an amp to the stock deck
with replacement speakers... i think my fiance will be
much happier with the sound quality, without busting our
wallets for a new deck.
thanks again.
