Steering Wheel Audio Controls Issue

I've had my CL for about a week. I was trying the steering wheel audio controls when the steering wheel was straight, and nothing happened. I just thought that they didn't work and assumed it just broke. But my dad turned the wheel a bit and then they began to work. He says that there some sort of ring that must have been worn out from the previous owner not really turning the steering wheel much while they drove. Can this correct itself or will I have to take off the steering wheel or do some other method to fix this issue? Thanks!

Take the control out, it's 2 screws, try cleaning the contacts for the plug, sometimes they just get dirty. If it's still bad, I have both the clockspring and the audio control for sale if you need either
