stearing wheel buttons????
I just installed an Alpine 9815 and love it. But of course I find myself reaching for the stearing wheel buttons all the time. Does anyone know how the audio control buttons are wired? If they are just N/O switches I can wire them up to a spare remote and get my controls back. Any help would be great!

Thanks for the info! I take it that plugs into the AI plug on the back of the alpine? I'll have to visit a good shop I know that sells Alpine (I doubt PC Richards would have a clue).
Thanks Again!

I did some digging today. The 3 buttons are wired with 2 wires from the steering wheel. The steering wheel has a funky swivel connection that allows the connections from the steering wheel to pass to the rest of the car. The 3 switches put 3 different resistances across the 2 wires:
100 Ohm for Vol Down
720 Ohm for Next Track
3.6K Ohm for Vol Up
Needless to say the original plane of re-wiring the 3 switches with 6 wires is out (no easy way to get the wires from the switches pass that swivel thingy) I figure it will be easy enough to wire up a circuit to sense this resistance and trip one of 3 relays, which are wired to the spare remote which I will pull apart. Lucky for me my cousin is an EE. I did go to vocational school for electronics, so the wiring will be cake one I have a circuit laid out.
I'll keep ya posted!

A company called blitzsafe makes an infrared transmitter that connects to the factory wiring and sends out an ir signal to the alpine headunit. If i were you i'd look into that more, rather than cut into your existing wiring in the car.
Edit: Not blitzsafe this :

Thanks jblaze!!!
I was just coming up with something because I thought there was nothing out there. With that solution being 60 bucks, it's not worth the custom work. And with 5 years of driving my CL, not having the stearing controls is not an option!!!!!!
