Spring are a Biatch!
Spring are a Biatch!
What a bitch!
I'm 2 weeks shy of owning my CL for a year. Yesterday (Saturday) was my first "big" project outside of replacing the rotors.
I installed my ProKit (with the help of my brother-in-law and my neice's boy friend).
It took 6 hours (not including the time it took to find the rear shock that I ruined!
Started with the driver's-side rear. The lower shock bolt came off relatively easy (put penetrating oil on it the night before--thanks RidinLow). So, that spring installation went well.
Then went over to the passenger-side rear. FUCK, FUCK, FUCK, FUCK! I sheared the bolt head off! FUCK, FUCK, FUCK, FUCK! I knew this would happen, but I had hoped not! Needless to say, I now had a bolt stuck in the bushing! We cut the strut mounting brace, so that we could remove the strut.
Next phase was to run all over Herndon, VA (Dulles International Airpoirt area--for those who are unfamiliar), looking for a strut. An hour later, we got one. In the mean time, my brother-in-law drilled out the broken bolt from the bushing. Eventually, we got the new strut/spring installed. I put the rear wheels back on.
I raise the jack an inch or so, so that we can remove the jack stands. My brother-in-law removes one, and my neice's boyfriend removes the other. So, I let her down. Several minutes later, I look on the driver's side of the car, FUCK, FUCK, FUCK, FUCK! The dumbshit did not pull the jack stand clear of the car, and it's now jammed into my side skirt! FUCK, FUCK, FUCK, FUCK!
I now have a permanent dimple in my side skirt (luckily, with time, the skirt popped-out, back to it's original overall shape--although it has this fucking dimple).
The fronts went ok, just took some time.
I barely finsihsed in time (I had a commitment to keep), so I fired her up, and headed home (about a 45 minute ride). It was pouring rain, so I didn't really get a chance to push her. The ride seems just a touch "harsher" but defintely nice. Also, there seems to be a little less body roll.
I took some pics this morning (it stopped raining for a moment). The pics don't seem to register the level of drop that I see when standing beside the car, but it's definitely a drop. I like it very much, and can't wait to get some 18s on her.

That looks very nice. I was waiting for an update on the install because i want to do mine too. You left stock shocks on yes? I might PM you later about more instuctions because i like doing things myself and want to do this Im sure that drop means a lot more to you because you did it Congrats

Yes, those are the stock shocks/struts. I put anti-sieze on all of the bolts, so if I choose to upgrade shocks/struts in the future, the process will be only several hours, instead of 6 hours!
Hehe, my CL was on jackstands for about a month before I finished my install, so yours sounds like it went pretty well!
And it sure looks like the 3.0CL Eibach springs don't lower the car very much at all. I seem to remember some girl that also had Prokits on her 3.0 & it looked even more stock than the 2.2/2.3 with Prokits.
Here's my 2.2 on Prokits & AGXs.

i really dont know why pro kits dont lower peoples car that much. I have the pro kits and im alomost tucking back tire and the front is like 1 inch away from being tucked. mine is more like ridinlow's drop. Maybe the 2.3 springs are different. I dunno.
By the way. Looks Great Dustbuster! Sorry to hear about the trouble u had. It took me 6 hours to drop my integra i had a while back. just be patient and expect things to go wrong.

As hard as the rears were
your still willing to go thru that shit again? Man you're more dedicated than I am! Hey 1stGenCl buy the new shocks and only go thru hell and back once, you can even get new boots and mounts from the tire rack and not have to disassemble the stockers. Plus kyb GR2s ride 100% better than stock for only $29
apiece in the rear, $49 front.

Granted, I don't have the 2"+ drop that others may have, but I didn't want that! If, I did, I would have gotten the Sportlines or something more dramatic.
All I wanted was a little drop for better handling and to lessen the wheel gap.
Mission accomplished!
looks just like mine! good job. by the way, while rotating my tires (simple job right) I stripped a lug nut onto the stud the other day and had to drill it out. but I couldn't drive my car for a couple of days - but I imagine my frustration was similar to yours.
