I just got my stuff installed.
I have Polk EX602a's 6.5's in the front and EX693's 6x9's in the back. These are older models, but they can be had for cheap when they pop up on ebay. I got both sets, new in box, for under $100 shipped.
I also replaced the stock tweets with some JVC 13mm dome tweeters, also from ebay. The model number is CS-T18, but googling turned up nothing, so I just had to hope they were ok. They sound pretty good, but get mostly drowned out by the Polks.
The Polk's are very sensitive, so I didn't boither with a seperate amp for them. They get pretty loud off the head unit I bought, the JVC KW-AVX706 (double-din 6.5" DVD player). This thing is amazing. The best feature is that it can read MP3 and WMA files on DVD's, so I have my entire music collection on 3 DVD-RW's.
I have 2 JL Audio 10w0's in a Powerwedge box (which I highly recommend, as it looks almost custom) running off a Profile Clarus CL400. Not a ton of wattage, but the amp has the correct RMS output for the subs and more than enough low-end/"boom" for me.
I also had eDead v1² (like Dynamat but MUCH cheaper) installed in the doors and in the trunk lid.
I had all of this professionally done, so I can't comment if it's hard to install or not, but they didn't mention being especially difficult when I picked it up. It's not a huge, powerful system, but it sounds pretty good. Even the guy at the audio shop said he was surprised with how well it sounded. I'm gonna post pics within the next week or so, once the finishing touches are added.

Polks are very good. They have great highs and would go great with subs. I have the Alpine type S for that reason. They compliment my subs pretty well but I don't know about having them alone.

yea i heard that type s's were good for the money but not amazing. Im willing to drop about 300 on this...is it worth getting type R's in the front and back without amping it?...right now I'm pretty happy with the bass levels, its just that whent he bass thumps, I cant hear any voices of the music haha i think i need to seperate the bass to a woofer, and let the speakers do the high sounds >.< damnit this means another 300 for woofer and amp >.<

If you're not gonna amp up, I would stay away from the Type-R's. You'd be better off with a speaker that has lower power requirements and a higher sensitivity rating.
If you wanna stick with Alpine, go with the S-Series: SPS-17C2 in the front, in the SPS-69C3 in the back. These are gonna be cheaper and, without an external amp, they will sound better than the Type-R's would.

I wanted to edit this post, rather than creating a new one, but couldn't figure out how. Oh well.

To make these fit snug, look at the height difference

Nice speakers, not a fan of the install though, not very clean, looks kinda ragged.
