Sooooo.... Transmission problem.. NOT SOLVED
Okay.... so I went visit them today about hard shifting of my tranny. And they happily took my car and took a look. And 40 min later, they told me my tranny fluid is super dirty and smell burnt. I looked at some guy next to me and give them this BS look. So i told her that I just had tranny flushed and changed 6 month ago, and now is very dirty and burnt ? She doesn't really believe me, and wanted to know where i had done it. She said its only thing the mechanics and tell right now that could cause the problem. i bet.
so she insisted i should change , and asked if i do HARD driving. I said I do hard driving, but there is no way its dirty AGAIN 6 months later, 5000km later, c'mon ! I even bought 7 bottle of geniun Honday fluid when i did the flush. Actually, my initial tranny fluid change was filled with inferior brand, shitty brand of fulid filled by my manchinc. So week later, i immediately flushed and refilled with authentic honda fluid.
So i asked her how much they charge for flushing the tranny, she said they don't do it, and its a big waste of money. WTF ??
anyone know the truth about tranny flush and fluid ?

your gears could have burned out, causing tranny fluid to turn black. they will need to open up the transimission itself to know exactly what the problem is. but, i pretty sure u blew a gear or 2. happened to me 2wice. and gotten tranny replaced 3 times.

tranny flush is not nessesary and will only cost u more money. As ur tranny is driven it is broken in. Flushing the tranny will take all the fluid out and then the new fluid would have to fill and lubricate the tranny once more. Changing the 4 qts lone is good enough. Its like changing ur engine oil, u dont flush it,,u just empty and fill. To me its a waste of money and my friend is a Honda/acura specialist and doesnt recomend tranny flushes. The dealership and him only do it under customer request.
Cheap tranny fluid will mess ur tranny up big time. Its good that u changed the tranny fluid out quick after ur mechanic put the shit in. I would just change ur tranny fliud again without flushing it and see if the tranny fliud is still burnt. If so then u have blown or burnt a gear. hope this helps.

Doesn't Acura (Honda) recommend changing the transmission fluid every 2-3 years or 30K miles (something like that)? My '99 2.3 will be 3 years old this December, and a tranny fluid change is recommended. Years ago when I had my old 5speed Civic, after several years the shifting was pretty slow and felt pretty "thick" for lack of a better word. A fluid change was done and it felt wayyyy better--all fluid and smooth again. That might have been a different situation, but I always thought you should change all your fluids periodically...
ilike2cheez: Rereading your post, do ya mean don't open up the tranny to remove the fluid in there, just change the fluid in the resevoir or whatever it's called?

Thanx for you guys' input. I see, now I can believe more about tranny flush being a waste of dough. Yah, it took place in the dealer.
THis is a mod friendly dealer, they support modifying cars, and their price is competitive against generic shops like mr. lube or you know those places.
So shifting hard meant some gears are burnt out ? I suppose they wouldn't lie to me about the colour of my fluid, and its probably burnt out due to the burnt tranny. I guess i can see the possibility. What exactly happens when a gear is burnt ? means the gear is out of shape ? loose ? or what ? It seems that the car doesn't really respond very well with the gas pedal, so its kind of dangerous sometimes when you want to mergy really fast.. but the car.. well, the tranny is not responding that well, Does it look like my gear is burnt out ?
If so, I am going to replace fluid asap so I can get them to give me a set of new tranny ! woohoo !

chrw: what i mean is drain the tranny fluid and fill it up. That means when u drain it only a little over half of its volume comes out & the other half satys in the tranny lubricating the gears and all. When u flush ur tranny almost everything is "flushed out" and that is usually about 8 qts. To flush a tranny u have to take it to a shop where they have certain tools i believe.( i never did that before so im not sure).
To chnage the fluid just get a pan and unscrew the tanny fliud drain plug inder the tranny and let it drain. Then fill it back up to the dip stick line just like engine oil. Very simple and tales like 15 min. Remember to go to acura/hond aand but the tranny fluid. I believe is around $4 a qt. Hope this is cleared up some confusion.
