My Son Borrowed My 99cl Which I Love. It Over Heated Some How. And It Smoked Under The Hood And Out The Tail Pipe. Now Its At An Acura Dealer In Marietta Ga Getting A New Engine. Its Has 160k. Was This A Smart Thing To Do? I Didn;t Want To Part With The Car. What Problems Should I Look For? Cost Is $3400. I Would Appreciate Any Input, Positive Or Negative.

i highly doubt that he blew the engine, i beat the hell out of my cl daily...................and i really mean beating the hell out of it. but ive never had smoke pour out of anywhere.

if it turns off, its probably because the battery acid on the connectors. what cel were you getting?

yeah..............anyways........you're 27.......if you had a kid @ age 18 that means your kid is only 9yrs old...................hahahahaha

 

at an early age....unless you son beat on it while it was overheating,i don't see the car needing a new engine.the j30 MOTOR is strong as hell.could be thermostat,radiator. maybe a headgasket?acura dealer's are rapage......

I work for a honda dealership out of Boulder Co and i can honestly say that its highly unlikely for any person to be the cause of engine failure as you described. If the check engine was on, whoever neglected to take care of that issue is at fault. That little light actualy means something....and its not to be blown off as nothing. The cars computer is very sensitive to change and if theres something wrong....it needs to be looked at right away.

 

my cel has been on about 8 months and i BEAT THE PISS OUT OF HER. depends on the code it's throwin.tranny blow=all day,even i can't fuck up this motor.i(i blew a teggy motor though)

120+ cel on and that was months ago.her motor is still strong as the day she pulled of the showroom floor*knocks on wood*

Overheating car + smoke out tailpipe = blown headgasket.

 

never said ignore it,always find out what code it's throwin.some are an o2 sensor is not gonna blow your motor............

 

yeah, this has happened to me. car started smoking and doing horrible things, took it in and they said "your motor is blown". i was like "wtf? thats not possible" theyre like "ya huh, blown."
so i took it to a friendlier mech shop and they opened the radiator cap with the engine running and it sprayed chocolate milk lookin brown fluid allllll over the place. turned the car off and they said "head gasket for sure, thats all"
this was with my mazda but still, could be the case, its much more likely that he just ran the car overheated for too long and blew the head gasket.
