Hows it going fellas? This is slightly related to CLs. So I got my license 8-28-06. Got a ranger, sold it for a 3.0CL. I was big and I thought it was plenty quick. But I was gettin 17 mpg and felt the tranny slippin, so I bailed. I picked up an EK Civic. But, I grow quite weary of all the bullshit wrong with it. So I am looking to pick up a new car. I have been looking into a couple.

Dont hate too hard on the miata, its fairly quick, and RWD, and 50/50 weight distribution.

I know an online forum can only help me so much, but I am wondering what you guys would be happier with. There are pros and cons for both. Peace.

 

get the cl, and if you want a miata get one with lsd.

 

good price on the CL. i get 28ish mixed driving mpg on my 2.2. still has enough power for my liking.

 

get the cl, the 2.2 5speed are really reliable....

 

Get the CL and ride in style, don't ride in the little tin can, I hope you're a short little dude if you want a miata, I'm 6'5" and can't fit half of myself in one of those cans

You're about to go to college. You'll pull your hair and slap yourselves silly in the near future if you choose the Miata over the CL. I've driven and rode in one and let me tell you, it's very crammed. I'm a small dude (5.5, 125) and i had trouble keeping my head from brushing the roof... and i could hardly fit all the stuff for two people (not much) in the car, some had to be put under my legs...

I'll say you should go with the CL over the Miata simply because of the pimp factor and the space. You're only looking at those two?

 

Get the CL. Perfect pimp college student vehicle. Trust me i know, i get alot of compliments on mine. And ive had 2 in my college career (bout to graduate)

 

if it were me, i would get the miata, but hey, im sellin my cl for something sportier, not sayin a miata is sporty, but rwd and a vert

however its not very usefull if u need to have more than 1 person with u

 

Ya I don't know how tall you are but I am 5'11 and barely fit in a miata with the top up. My dad is 6'2 and the only way he can fit in a miata is with the top down.

miata is a GREAT track car, but on the street is a no-no.

 

I'm not hating the Miata. Just that when it comes to practicality and reliability, the CL takes the cake everytime. The Miata in stock form is no where near go-karts, you need to mod the chassis (a lot) to get that famed handling.

Now if you say a used S2K (has everything the miata's got) vs. a CL, i'll take the S2K in an instance.

Edit: I forgot to add, the last time i went tracking at Willow Spring, two Miatas ate sand so bad the whole front fascia got ripped off. The miatas were oversteering really bad....

 

dude this is a cl forum what did you think was gonna happen to the miata be revered as the holy grail of cars. and i agree miata is fun to drive as long as thats all ur using it for is to drive like a crazy maniac other than that as a daily driver im sorry cl hands down.

i was the same as you i got pissed when people hated on the miata i wanted one so bad so i got it 2002 it was fun drifting around corners and power braking handles great untill it snowed and it didnt want to go straight and girls liked it in the summer i had the hard top so it looked bad ass when i had the top on. then i could only have one other person in the car and i got sick of loosing races its not that quick the new ones are ok. then i test drove my 3.0 and herd that vtec it it was like being on a cloud and it looks mean too. do what u want but heres my

 

I had a 3.0. I thought it handled kinda crappy, kind of a boat. I dont like speed, im not much for racing, though it has its moments, but for everyday i like taking corners fast.

 

taking corners fast=spinning out+ almost having to change your undies, believe me......i have first hand experience.
