Slave master cylinder going out

I don't know where the master cylinder is, but I think my slave cylinder is to blame. I can shift with the car off, but not on, the clutch doesn't stay at the floor when pressed and released, but I am no mechanic, and after searching it sounds like the slave cylinder might be to blame. Does it sound more like slave to you guys? Also, how do you bleed one? Thanks.

Ok, found more out. I just replaced the clutch/flywheel two days ago too. I just went out to see if any fluid was dripping, and pump the clutch. I found that I could shift into gear when I pressed about 3/4th of the way in, but if I had the clutch all the way to the floor it wouldn't shift...I also couldn't see anything dripping on the ground, but around the slave cylinder it looks like it is kinda wet...but I just changed the clutch and we had to bleed it there too, so it may be from then also. Anyone have any thoughts?

Check the interior floats of both the master and slave cylinders to make sure they are not cracked. It is odd that if you push further than 3/4ths of the way it seizes the shift linkage.

If the floats are cracked and there is fluid on top of them then replace them, If not, you may have issues with the carrier or throw-out bearings inside the cluch. I also read about a guy who some how put his preasure plate on incorrectly. (I didn't think that was possible... but you know they have warnings on Preparation H that say... "Not for oral use.")

Just be sure you have checked and torqued everything to specification. Did you do the work yourself? Very cool if you did.

Good luck.

I hope to god I don't have to take out the tranny again (I had a lot of help doing the clutch)... It seemed to be working fine yesterday, and the day before, but now I don't know what to think. I'll see if I can find out about the cracks your talking about.

Most of the time if it is the slave cylinder the clutch wont engage at all. Did you break in the clutch long enough without giving it hell??

I am still breaking it in, and don't plan on giving it hell for another 400 miles. I think it may be something with the adjustment of the clutch (like by the master cylinder or somethin)

Lots of patience, it took me and a couple other guys about 11 hours of working on it with no beer or nothing. We just ran into stupid little problems that couldn't be planned for, and then the little problems would take an hour to fix here and there. And make sure you know where each bolt goes, maybe label them or something like that.

At least someone on this forum knows to break their clutch in b4 stomping on it

Nah I really should be dumping the clutch instead of breaking it in. My mechanic said it was cool.

beer is a must while working on a car.

but as for your question.

put a cardboard box underneath your car, thats the only way you can be sure of a leak. brake/clutch fluid drys up very quickly. at least it will leave a nice stain on the box.

but it could be the adjustment of clutch like u mentioned before. are you currently driving it with this problem??? it could fix itself, i noticed things like that happen when i have problems after installs.

that all i have to add.
