short shifter

oka y so i want a short shifter, but i dont know what to buy so explain the difference between these.
if i bought an actualy short shiftrt(if they make them) do i buy it for an accord or prelude?
and a short shifter adaptor, what does that do and whats the diff between a short shifter, like the actual stick and the adaptor and what will they do and last of which of all these will make the throw shorter and the stick smaller?
i saw klepto bought a prelude shitfer. was that just a regular prelude shofter or what?
thanks,
bc

I believe the adapter shortens the actual "stick" while the short shifter itself shortens the throw. This coming from an automatic owner so dont hold me to it.

dc short throw adapter- shortens throw..

prelude shifter - shortens throw and height

custom - 10-15$$ short throw and height

some people do a prelude shifter with a short throw adaptor and that works pretty slick but ou dont really need the adaptor i think that the short throw adaptor is about worthless becuase i think that if your going to do it you should shorten it which makes the interior a lot cleaner and a lot sportier.. tall shifters bte the big one.. anything else?

I recently installed a prelude short shifer in my car. It shortens the height about a good inch and the throws are somewhat shorter. I documented the whole process here http://home.comcast.net/~daklepto/diymisc2.htm

You have to take the whole console apart like in the pics to expose the shifter. Once that's done, it's easy. Just unbolt the linkage (rod that attaches to the front of the shifter), then attach the adapter to the shifter, then the linkage bolts onto the adapter. It's pretty easy. I've got an OBX adapter, and it cut about an inch off the throw. If you want to shorten your shifter, cut off the top inch, then use a tap (or is it a die?) and put new threads onto the stub. and insert the adapter in between them.

If that doesn't make any sense (i've been drinking), go to this site http://www.filtsai.com/accord/cut_shifter/index.php this guy has some pretty good DIY instructions.
