I had this same problem with my old OBX short ram. I kept the OEM air box in the engine bay, removed the top and filter, and let the short ram's filter sit on top of the air box case. It worked!

hey I finnaly figured out what was wrong. There is a piece sticking out to connect the intake to the fneder. And the hole was not threaded. So I had to head on over to true value and buy a tap and thread it. it looks good! but the air filter is kind of big for the resonator box... will it be ok if I take it out or should I leave it because it sucks the air up into it?

If you got the support that you need, I would recommend taking out all of the factory piping. The more you remove, the more you'll find until you reach the resonator which is down in the wheel well area. You'll "drop" a few pounds by removing all of the plastic air system including the resonator.
