i dunno if this will help, but i replaced mine recently;

1. put the plastic black handle partially onto the shift stick, place the spring into the side hole and compress it as much as you can with the chrome thumb button.
2. now push the chrome thumb button all the way in until the triangle shaped top of the shift stick is in align/directly below the grove of the chrome button while still having the spring compressed.
3. press the black plastic handle all the way down and screw in the two screws to fasten the shift knob in place.

i hope this helps

actually, i just thought of an easier way to word this. ok, you should have:

1x plastic/leather shift handle
1x chrome thumb button
1x spring
2x screws

put the spring into the side hole of the handle, compress it with the chrome thumb button, then slide the handle onto the shifting stick while the chrome button is still compressing the spring. the triangle shaped metal piece at the top of the shifting shaft should fall into a groove at the bottom of the chrome thumb button. screw the two side screws on the handle to the shaft and you should be set!

this is the most important step, and probably why you cant shift.

Dude, you can go without it, just take it off and use the push down.

But to put it back together do what they said. Just gotta get the button lined back up. Make sure you didn't loose the spring, I have an extra one if u need it
