I'm getting the engine code for a secondary O2 sensor failure on my father's 3.0CL.

Does this mean my O2 sensor requires replacement?

-or-

Does this mean my cat is messed up and not working properly and perhaps IT requires replacement?

Any input from you guys would be great.

Same thing happen to me a couple months ago. I could also hear a rattle coming from the cat every now and then. I took off my cat and the cat inside was all shattered. I ended up buying a racing cat from obx. Good luck

 

should be covered on warranty, all emissions equipment is covered for either 8 or 10 years.

 

The thing is I do not know if it actually is the cat or the O2 sensor. The only thing I can go on right now is the engine code that tells me a problem with the secondary o2 sensor.

If the cat dies, is it normal for the secondary o2 sensor engine code to come on? or perhaps it has nothing to do wiht the cat and only means that my o2 sensor is dead and I need a new one.

Just want to know this before spending a couple of hundred bucks on a new one.

It doesn't matter which one it is since they'll both be under warranty!

How's your gas mileage? If it's off, it's your rear O2 sensor.
