During the past week, whenever I start my car I am noticing a loud screaching sound that lasts for about 1-2 seconds. I'm thinking I may need a new starter but am not sure. Anybody have any idea what this may be?

I just had the drive belts and timing belt replaced 2 weeks ago and am wondering if this may have caused the problem? Any suggestions? Thanks.

 

tighten the belts... thats probably it - happened when I put my pullies on and changed the belts...

When I had my Teg, the distributor bearing shelled out... two days before my wedding. well, two days before that, I heard a horrible screaching that only lasted a few secs.

Same car seven months later, squealing sound came from the hood a few times, and then stopped. Well, three days later, wife and I are on I70 somewhere in west KS at 3 am. I'm snoozing after driving for a long ass time, and I wake to bank, rattle, bang. The a/c tensioner pulley had sheared its bearing and was flung out from under the Teg at 80mph. Luckily, the belt coiled up and spared the other two drive belts. Wow, made the rest of the trip without a/c, but it was Christmas in COLO.
