Resonator

For those that used a resonator, which one did you use? Have anyone ever heard of magna flow... I think they are some generic company you can find at the muffler shops. Anyone ever use them?

Just had my exhaust done.....

It was funny watching the resonator hit the ground after 1 minute of cutting tourch. Nothing but 3" {edit-2.5" pipe actually} pipe from the CAT back now. Why do you want a resonator in there?

You're gonna lose alot of low end cause you're giving up alot of back pressure from the 3" piping. I think stock is 2 1/4. I wouldn't go over 2.5"

Oops, just looked at my recipt from yesturday and it is 2.5". The stock was 2.25", and they took it to 2.5" from the CAT to the muffler. I had asked for 3", but they did not speak very good english, so I guess they told me I was crazy.....

I actually bumped into a nice guy with a clean modded Ecplise that runs with Team Euro. He recommended a place in Irving:

I called them, and a few other locals, and they were all kinda jerks. The guys at Bandas were real nice and took good care of me and did a clean job. Muffler and custom cat back for 260+tax!!

And while we are on the subject, Alamo Motorsports does a lot of the local work. There are always 6-10 cars being worked on there everytime I go by. Of course, the prices are not the greatest.

i absolutely hate ALAMO, Brice was always a dickhead....unless you have a Supra or some other high performance car willing to drop tons of money to them, they are pricks to you and dont give you the time of day....Ive also had friends have their cars messed up by them as well..

Magnaflow is NOT generic. I have a single in dual out magnaflow with two rolled tips that are a little bigger than stock, and 2 1/2 piping all the way from the racing cat and header back, and it sounds killer. you can barely hear it in the car (maybe because my car is ALL dynamat) but from the outside it has a nice mellow tone that in my opinion kicks ass.

how hard was it to dyno mat your car? and how much did you spend? did you do it yourself? I am assuming you tore out the carpet and lined the whole floor. Did you also do the door pannels and the fire wall?

Dynomat just takes patience. Pull the seats, trim, concole, etc to get the carpet out in one piece. Then you generally have to rip the joot (sp?) out as it sticks to the metal. Applying it is easy, roll it in, heat it with a heat gun and use a small roller to contour it to the metal. Don't just do the floor though. Pull all the trim, back seat, door panels, etc, and do those too. Don't forget the trunk and hood :-) Sometimes just a patch here and there will help "deaden" the panel to stop resonation if that is the issue.

Can you tell I was in car audio for a while :-)

I had a Magna flow muffler in my car and it sounded sweet. My friend liked mine better than his GReddy.

that sounds like its alot of work. I have never removed anything in my car.... I am afraid if i remove it I wont know how to put it back together. How long did it take you and how much did you spend for all the supplies? Did you put any on the firewall? How quite did it make your car compared to before? 10% 20% more quite? Is it as quite as a 2nd Gen CL?

Well, it wasn't an Acura I did it to, it was another vehicle. It does make a great deal of difference. My goal was to reduce highway noise a little, but more so to deaden the metal in the vehicle for better acoustics.

I can't remember the cost, but the dynamat gets pricey. Took a couple days, but there were no more rattles, or strange reverberations @ 138db

As far as taking things apart, yeah, you need to be confident in taking apart things and getting them back togehter. I have always had the ability to remember the exact removal procedure and reverse it on any multi-part product (from hair-dryers to automobiles). I can look at most anyhting and get it apart without service manauls.

i used straight dynamat extreme everywhere, i can't even hear my exhaust. It's well worth it, but expensive. I think retail on all that i used is like 1200 bucks...gotta love employee discounts
