Replacing 6x9's in my 2.2... Have ?'s

I'd like to hear from folks who have replaced the 6x9's in their non-Bose cars. I have the stock headunit and I'll be putting in the new Kenwood 4-way 6x9's.
I'm expecting a great increase in sound quality here because as it is the stock rears have pretty low quality sound. Most of the sound comes from the front.

Will this give me good results? I know the stereo headunit isn't so hot and I don't know how many watts it pushes but I want to be sure I'll have an easy time with installation and upgraded sound.

What all are your experiences?

I was just told by the Crutchfield sales adviser that the mounting depth is too shallow for any of their aftermarket 6x9 speakers!! WTF!
I'm bidding on some speakers on EBay and don't know if I should cancel out of it.

How did your speakers fit??? Did you need some sort of adapter??

Kenwoods are not all that great for sound quality... maybe if you can, move up to the Polk DX's or even some Infinity's... you'll have much better sound quality. My brother has a '00 Civic SI and the cd player in there is almost the same, and I imagine the power output is the same... and he replaced the front and rear speakers with Polk's in the front and Boston in the rear and it sounds excelent!! You may end up keeping your stock deck, like I did to keep the stock look, you'll realize it sounds very good, just the stock speakers are keeping all the good sound from getting to your ears.

I think that sales advisor at Crutchfield is full of crap. Look in your trunk and you should see the bottom of the speakers, it doesn't matter what the mounting depth is. I would get a better quality than kenwood, then again I would invest in a new HU because the stock one won't push enough to get the nice speakers to sound good anyway. Also, it is so simple to replace speakers. DIY.

I totally decided not to use 6x9's in the car. I used 6.5 Diamond Audio Motorsports in there. I cut out the shape for the 6x9 and than cut space for the 6.5. Round is better cause it doesn't distort. Personally I wouldn't suggest Kenwoods, but that's me, but if you do, I know Eclipse Pointsources and Boston 6x9's are nice.

yeah any full range speaker is crap. do ur self a favor and get components. also cruthfield is kinda right. the stock speakers mout fromt the top of the deck not the bottom. when insatlling some infinity kappas for a customers accord i had to mount them from the bottom in order for them to fit properly. also the metal bars in the trunk made it a little diffuclt to install, the magnets on the kappas are HUGE! but the point is any 6x9 will fit. u just might have to mount form the bottom not the top.

Thanks all.

I know the Kenwoods may not be the premium article here but i know for a fact that it will be better than stock. I will not spend over $100 for one set of speakers for my car, although I may really like that idea.
I got the new, highest model Kenwood 4 way speakers for a steal on Ebay ($60) so I cannot complain at all!
It'll be better than stock. Thanks for all the help.

Peace,
N

Well I replaced the rears with Kappa 692.3i's, and of course they are wonderful, as Infinity should be. They ran me $119 on ebay. They were such a bitch to install I didn't even do it myelf, took them to a shop and had them do it for 40 bucks.

Speaking of speakers: With the components that come with the 98 2.3 (not bose), where is the factory crossover? The factory tweets are labeled "3W", was that all the factory cd player put out, or does the crossover somehow diminish power? I'm putting Kappa tweeters in, and I'd rather have my 22 watts running to them than 3. Anyone have any knowledge on this?

On my "Bose" tweeters, the crossover was build onto it. There is no marking on the tweeter itself, but there's a small gray-looking barrel [(capacitor????) that has "unicon" (in an oval), then "50v4.7uF" underneath the oval] soldered onto it. My uncle (an audio installer) said this was the crossover.

So have you installed these speakers? Tell us your experience, and how do you like them?

I got a set of Pioneer TS-A6985 6x9 speakers from www.ikesound.com for 60 bucks, at best buy you can pay 129.99 for them.

I replaced all my speakers with CAdence.5 1/4 and 6x9.I have a 800 watt cadence amp pushing them.I can be heard clear for 4 blocks. In my trunk I have to 2 Mtx 6000 12's powered by a 900 watt orion amp.For the best sound put a amp on your components.

Yeah, I'd love to amp my speakers, my HU just doesn't have the juice for super loud play. I'm fine for now though, I'll use my money for other stuff.

The Kenwoods sound great and If I had a much more sophisticated EQ I could really get some crystal sound.... but the rattles in my car doors gets worse as it gets louder, I need dynomat.
