Relay for Fog Lights

Just bought some aftermarket fog lights from Canadian Tire and have a thought. The switch that comes with the kit looks pretty cheesy, I want to wire the lights right into the regular headlights, so when they turn on, so do the fogs.... Do I need a relay or is it as simple as splicing into the main headlight wire?

I wired my relay into the corner lamp wiring so they come on with the parking lights (I use the switch it came with to overide them). Wouldnt do it either way without the relay. You can always put the switch out of sight like in the flip up tray under the radio, glove box, etc.

I spliced mine into the low beams with a relay on accident ment to put them on the paring bulbs but i will fix that soon. Guess that a good reason not to drink a bottle of aftershock b4 you work on your car

Regarding the relay; Any special technical specifics I should be looking for? Is it something I can pick up at the local Radio Shack or something

I bought mine from radio shack. They had a 12V one that said for high wattage lighting so i get that one and it works fine.

instead of wiring my relay into the parking lights or headlamp wires, i put it in under the fuse for the power windows/sunroof in the fuse box.

This way, i can have the fog lights on with out the headlights, and i never have to worry about forgetting to turn them off because they go off when I open the door with the car shut off, or 10 min. after shutting off the car.

UDMechE,

I like that idea. Never would have thought about that. The only thing keeping me from leaving them on is that annoying chime.
