Hiiii there, I picked up a black 98 2.3CL not too long ago, it's got it's small set of issues but I like it a lot lol. I've just been lurking around here for a month or two , never really had anything to post about, so i just figured i would say hello.
I've seen a few CL's around my area lately (just outside Toronto), no idea if they're on here or not though

 

So how many thousands have you spent so far since visiting? :P

Nope nothing done on it yet, i'm trying to save money for college so I don't really wanna spend too much, but i'd love to get it looking half as good as some of the cl's i've seen on here

Are your rear badges gold? Looks like the initial buyer got one of those "gold packages" from the dealer.

All in all decent shape.

 

Yeah the rear badges were gold, they all fell off though lol, I cleaned the glue up for the most part but i'm left with two holes in my trunk from the A

 

I thought all of that was glued on... holes? So what do people do when they debadge to fill the holes?

i'm not sure what they use, and yeah all of the badges were glued on but the acura logo left two holes behind it as well

The Acura text and the engine type/CL text are glued on. The "A" logo is glued, but also has two holes. That's normal.

 

So that's why most people leave the A =)

(blackack) Chris will love it...lol. and to what Josh said about ur car is debadged if i were u i would do something with the gold acura emblem on the front looks kinda off place u kno? but as far as ur new car...nice pick up but what r the issues ur having with the car? plz dont say tranny! and ummm u should left the 'A' u could bondo the holes and paint over it....damn i wish i hadda black CL...my entire car would of been BLACK literally

and yeah, tranny is the main issue...i'm having a guy i know look at it next week, hopefully i'm not gonna get raped for cash for whatever's wrong, i've seen a few posts on here with people that have the same issue with it
I still have the holes in the back, my A disappeared, I assume somebody stole it

 

u can geta new chrome A emblem online for like $12 USD from www.acuraautomotiveparts.org I got one there before I sold my 98 grill

 

Tranny = $

I'm glad I passed over the 3.0 when I was in the market for a new CL. I wanted to get in a standard shift anyway.

My very first CL was a 97 and I slammed it into a rock wall =(

 

Ouch on the tranny... That's gonna be alot of money bro, probably about at least half on what you paid for the car... Like BlackAck said, I would definatly buy the chrome center (A) emblem so it won't look ghetto. And replace that gold front one too so it won't stand out so much.

 

or u could bondo it and re paint it and buy a new grill from ebay.

 

or you could not be a n00b like Mo and just buy the chome emblems...

Twinky, i was actually thinking the same thing bout the rims...i want them so bad...but the clear corners has nothing to do with debadge and gold emblems and nuclear destructions

 

lol true... but hey i have bad experiences w/ emblems cuz i have those "ghost emblems" hope yours is clean miike, b/c rite now i have to deal with the ugly outline colored in by touch up paint....

 

yeah that's what I was afraid of, I wish i'd have gotten a 5 speed. and yeah i've been looking around for more emblems for the back, that'd be nice to get fixed those holes are driving me nuts

i kinda have the ghost thing goin on around where the letters are, only if you're looking at it from the right angle though. but the part where the A logo was has some ugly cuts around the edge of it

if you have money to do it. i'd highly recommend getting the "A" holes bondoed, sanded, and reapinted.
i couldn't say how much it would cost, cuz i got it for free when i had my car repainted.
but it def looks a lot cleaner, and i love it
anways welcome to AZ and just keep reminding yourself to not look at all the DIY's and spend all your money on the cl

 

people shave there trunks to get rid of the A holes.. LOL sounds funny, but most cars have the emblem on em like that to prevent us ricers from debadging their constant advertisement.

as for the little outlines of the letters, goo gone and a sore elbow will take care of that.

also, no one noted the clear signals?

If it really is ghosting, you can take care of that with some goo gone and if needed, a little polishing compound.

 

i tried goo gone and stuff but there's still a really thin outline around some of it, it's like it's chipped in there or something
and yeah i got the clear signals because i came out of my house one day to find my normal signal basically with a hole in it, so i just ordered the clear ones off ebay

 

if you want i can do a lil wet sand + buff your trunk and it'll get rid of that shit unless its chipped then that shit wont help at all..

wait so about that wet sanding thing can you please clarify that please? lol i have the ghost emblems and i put like i guess enough touch up paint on it to look kind of good but u can notice it when up close.... but i heard and saw that wet sand can make it look like as if it was never there but how? please someone? thanks

 

u could lightly wetsand to smooth it out, but u gotta be real careful, I'd use like a 1500 or 2000 grit wet/sandpaper 3m

 

you get your 1500 or 2000 grit wetsand paper (it should be dark green), a bucket of water, add a little soap, and slowly wetsand on the area. this will make the wetsanded area really hazey so make sure you finish up by giving it a nice polish and wax. You can get a little chip fix kit at autozone or wherever by the touchup paints that actualy includes the putty to fill in the 'pitting', the wetsand paper, primer pen, and clear coat pen. I still gotta use the kit on mine...

That would be cool, i've seen very few first gen's on the road around here, don't think i've ever seen one with anything done to it either
