Rear brake rotors need replacing @ less than 26K
New to the site, also a new owner of a 98 CL3.0
It was a relatives car, meticulously maintained, and hardly used. It has under 26k miles.
Brakes were still original and I started to hear the indicator noise. Brought it to my shop and just got the call that the fronts are fine for now but the rear needs pads and rotors!
They said that the rotors were too thin to cut. But they have never been changed before! He told me that the factory original rear rotors were skimpy and that is what often happens for the first pad change.
Anyone expirience this before? Having to change the rotors on the first pad change at 26k miles or is someone pulling my chain? TIA!

welcome ![Wave](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/wave.gif)
I have a '98 3.0 and I replaced all 4 pads/rotors at about 75,000 miles
26k seems odd........and I would think the fronts would wear before the rears

Thanks for the replies,
I decided to call the service dept. of my local Acura dealership and run it by them.
They told me that they usually can cut the rear rotors twice before replacing on that model under the assumtion that the calipers were not sticking and the owner did not groove them deeply by driving the car for a while after the indicator started indicating.
The shop is now cutting them to see if they pass the minimum thickness afterwards.
I'm leaning towards the explanation that they took the "better safe than sorry" stance because this shop has done a lot of stuff for me in the past and always treated me fair.
Anyways we will see tomorrow!

When they do the brake job make sure the calipers are not sticking. I had my left rear doing that. It caused the pads to wear at an angle. All they or you have to do is grease the pistons.

UPDATE:
After turning the rear rotors they ended up exactly at the minimum nominal width outline by Acura specs before needing replacement so the original rotors were able to be utilized. Therefore I should be able to get another 25-30K out of these SAME rotors. That's a big difference between 25k so I'm happy about that!![Big Grin](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Thanks all!
