I have a ’97 2.2 Manual, When I am in 2nd gear and hits about 13 or 14mph it makes this awful rattling sound like it is shaking something in the engine. It’s a pain to go to the deal when I have school and work wondering what the problem might be. The car has 40,000 miles maybe just a tune-up?

Any ideas will help

 

I have the same thing when i first drive my car after it has sat for a good couple of hours. It seems like the grill is rattling on mine. Im not exactly sure what it is though. Does this happen to your car everytime you shift from first to second or just when you start to drive it?

 

Welcome to the forumn Nick. Not quite sure what it could be, but does it sound like it's from the engine itself or just somewhere in the engine bay? Can you reproduce the noise while the car is idling or revving while the car is stopped?

 

It happens when I shift into second before 12mph or so and does it under any conditions. If I shift after going 15mpg it's fine.

It does not sound like the engine itself sounds like something is loose and rattling only between 12-14mph in 2nd. But don't know what it is. It does not do it when I rev. engine only when I am diving and shift between those conditions.
