Racing Question??
I have a question? Why does my friends 98 civic always pass me after 3rd GEAR? My engine is pretty much factory except for intake and I have exhuast. He has a civic with COMPLETE FACTORY ENGINE and he has exhaust. I will beat him on take off, pull away more when i change to second but when I go to third my car gets slow and he always passes me then! Anyone know why? Like when I change to third it takes it forever to redline!

well i've race my friends 2000 civic and i'll take him off the line, then in first and second and then he'll start catching up to me in third until i hit v-tec and once i'm in forth it'll be over. i don't know man. . . maybe clean out our car and lose the spare tire. maybe learn where to shift to get the most out of third. i shift at 6500 (right before fuel cut off) into third and sometimes i even chirp it. well have your friend race you in your car and you drive his. if he beats you, then you know it's just you. . . .

is his civic just an ex? i stomp on my friends bolt on ex through every gear, and even take out si's with exhaust and intake. Smoked one of those new hatchback si's from a second gear roll the other day. He had at least exhaust that i could see. All I have is e/i/h. My third gear did lag a little more when i had no headers, but no ex ever pulled on me.

Chino is not to far from LA 40 minutes... anyway you chirp into 3rd!!! are you serious? It is hard just to chirp into second with our cars or at least the 2.3

yeah i just dump the clutch at 6500 rmp. it doesn't happen all the time though, just when it's cold (you get more horsepower when it's cold outside.) i have the act xtreme orgainic clutch. that might help too.

dont always wait for redline to shift....first and second u can go to red then shift...but try shifting just a lil bit earlier on 3rd....right when u feel that the motor is stressing....shift...ur car will pull out. trust me it help a lot...shift like 500-700rpm right before u redline on 3rd or just listen to ur motor.

i used to chirp 3rd with my stock 16"s. Now I have 18"s and I can still chirp 2nd pretty hard, but not 3rd, unless i'm going around a turn. 2.3 e/i/h
blurry that clutch must be helpin a little bit, cause you got 17"s right? The rest is skill!! I let some of my friends drive my car and they can't even chirp second. their decent drivers too, it's just that I hit the gas before I release the clutch and it chirps like a mother fucker!
