question on RPM of our cl
just curious guys, for the members on here who have the first gen cl, 2.2/ 2.3 auto, at freeway speed at like 65-70mph, where is your rpm at? mine is at approx. 3000, and to me, it seems kinda high...is that why it consumes gas so much? my mom's camry hits around approx 2300-2500 at 65mph....
do we even have overdrive on our cars??......rpm is just so damn high.. thanks

On the topic of RPMs, next time your driving in the city pay close attention to your RPM guage. For some reason, mine doesn't "glide" smoothly, it kind of jumps up in increments. Never noticed a car doing this before, sorry for topic hijack.

Do you have aftermarket gauges?

On my 3.0 auto, I'm under 3K at 79mph...don't the 2.Xs have the same gear ratios? Maybe your gauges are effed.
However, you cannot go on engine RPMs alone to compare between different cars. You have to take the final drive ratio into account. The S2000 cruises at almost 4K on the highway...

kraftey..i've noticed that increment jumping as well, both on local and freeway...its pretty weird, most of the other cars that ive driven goes smoothly....its kinda jumps for our cl...is this normal ppl? anyone know?
but yeah, i cant even step it up to 80 cuz my car eats so much gas...i usually try to drive it at 65mph w/ cruise control...just under 3k rpm...

My friend has a 2000 Accord 2.3 auto - he gets like 32mpg on the highway going 80mph at the same rpm that my car does it at. Isn't the engine/transmission the same in that car?

The 1997-98 2.2CL share the same engine & tranny as that of the 1994-97 4-cyl. cars.
The 1999 2.3CL shares the same engine & tranny as the 1999+ 4-cyl. Accords.

where is....
im at about 2.3k when cruising doing 45
overdrive is D4, to turn off over drive then shift into D3 but you also only have 3 gears and i think D3 tops out about 112mph
