Question to all...

I was thinking today about how much I loved my CL..i'm 17 right now and would never want to sell my CL..Would it be possible to just keep dropping in a new engine...ecu..tranny (and the basic stuff also...) every 10 years ( or whenever I needed to) and the car could just keep on going..I love the design of the car and would love to have it for the rest of my life..

I don't see why not. There are 80's civics running around with 300,000+ miles on them. I gave up 225 horsepower to get my CL, and I plan on keeping it awhile.

You would have to repaint the outside, probably redo the inside too eventually. The engine is probably the thing that would last the longest, it's all the other things that will start breaking and rusting and fading. But, for a price, it could all be done.

You will find with old cars (your's in ten or more years) that certain parts like the dash, plastic stuff, etc wears out and no one will have replacement parts (unless the car is very popular like old mustangs and camaros, yuck) so i would say start parking it out of the sun NOW and preferably away from the elements entirely (like in a garage).

Well

When you get your first NSX, you can garage the CL to keep it preserved . Just put the miles on the NSX instead.

Good point! Just leave the NSX on the street and garage the CL!

Seriously though - you could start hitting salvage yards now for "fresh wrecks" and build a collection of replacement parts for later. I know I've done that with my Fiat spider.....If I see something good in the salvage yard, I'll usually get it even if I don't need it....I might need it later and not be able to find it!

Of course, I'm something of a pack rat too!!

Before you start running around junkyards looking for parts, think about how often your opinion changes. You're only 17 now, and chances are you will not want the same car when you're 27 (Wife, 1.8 kids running around), and even less when you're 37 (Mid-life crisis approaching). When I was 17 I loved my car, but looking back, I only loved it because it was my first car. It still means a lot to me, but it is worth the trouble of having an old car. Body styles also tendency to look ridiculous after about 15 years, but who knows.

I'm sure there are people who want to restore and keep their Hondas, but realistically, not many do. I'm not trying to say you wont keep your car for this long, but 17 year olds have a tendency to change their mind about things.

Thats a good point you have there..but my feelings now are that I want to keep the CL...I guess i'll just have to wait 10 or so years till I finally decide to keep my CL or not..

Actually theres only one other kid at my school with a CL...he's my friend..but he has a 3.2 CL...and I personally don't like how they redesigned the 3.2 as compared to the 1st Gen model...but thats my personal opinion..anyway I always get comments on how good my car looks..everyone likes it..

I agree

They took away the car's individuality when they redesigned the trunk lid.

Yea...the individuality to me was what made the CL so great...thats why everyone in my school likes my car..cuz it looks so different than everyone elses...but still looks like a great car..

Whoops! Didn't catch the age earlier. At 17, I would not advise the whole junkyard thing. Hell, I'm 32 (almost) and am not planning on stockpiling parts for mine. When this one's tired & done, I'll move on to something else.

Nice car for high school

Enjoy every perk it gets ya!!

A CL in high skool...... do you understand how much ponaan I would have racked up. Unfortunatly I didn't get a big enuuf allowance at the time and I had to take two years off between high and college to rock my ride. Please to let everyone know that I'm trying my best to catch up on that 'naan as we speak.
