put yourself in my shoes

what would you do?always wanted a 1st gen and i finally got it. i love my 97 3.0 but it has 145,000+ miles. had her for about 6 months now got tints/drop had plans to do much more but lately i'm not seeing the point.how much longer will she last?o2 sensor shot & tranny is slipping already put alternator, starter, batt, rear main seal, and a couple other little parts.the good about white lightning payment next to nothing.now the killer is my 2 boys just got cl type-s's and as you know my boy platano got the tl-s.i can't run with them, and i'm feeling the 2nd gen cl more and more everyday when i ride in it or drive it..i got an offer of $5000 for my cl from a co worker which is almost 2g's less than i paid and now i got a couple mods. would you take the $$ and go for a black cl type s with low miles.(you have a $5 raise pending, your financially comfortable now but if you go for the cl-s you will just be just ok with a car payment 2X what it is now ) i like my 1st gen cuz its different, out of my little cl crew im the only one with a 1st gen but i feel like im the missing link we got white cl-s and a silver cl-s now we need a black one! the cl-s has more hp and i like the interior better but the 1st gens rear/body style in general i like better.i don't want to give up on white lightning so soon but... Please help me im stressin out over this one!!!!!

the payment on 2nd gen/$$$ loss on the 1st gen is to stress.

Do u need that cl-s? That's what i always ask myself... money is gonna be tight if you jump on a cl-s. you're gonna have a newer car, higher insurance (cause u'll want better of course) and you're gonna need to take EXTRA care of it, since it'll be new. Those are more things you are gonna stress over as well. Personally, it'd be convenient to maybe even sell that, and get a different 1st gen, or just maintain this one... and as you drive it, save up for the cl-s for the near future as they come down in price. Good Luck man

need?no want?yes if i had this raise there would be no ? my job is i've been waiting and in training forever it seems like and i can't count on money i don't have. i wouldn't be broke but no mods for a while until i get back on track or this raise.i feel now is the time cuz my bills are limited car/insure/cell phone/credit card, stupid shit that i can afford no problem.(live downstairs at moms home rent free ). only thing im really saving for now is a house or a buisness(undecided on what to open) and im not moving out or buying a buisness no time soon.got a good job that stable and pays decent until i can work for myself.

i'd keep the 1st gen for the time being. wait untill you find what you want and then make a move...if the dude still want's to buy your car you're straight, if not take the railing at the stealership on the trade.

believe me i'm in the same position. i'm just trying to find the right car, at the right price...the boss is ready to move when i am.

know for a fact my next car will be a cl type-s or a g35(can't afford now)i will never ever buy a brand new car just because you lose $$$ as soon as you drive off the lot. i'll let someone else get it brand new, get ,then break the car in for me about 20-30k, then i'll get it cert pre-owned with a warranty. thats the plus about the cl-s(the warranty). my tranny is on its way out and thats out of pocket just the thought makes me.it would be nice to drive to the dealer give them the keys and say "fix it b*tch" at no cost to me

It doesn't matter the 2g you are losing you'll be putting back into your slipping tranny, just sell the thing while you can. You can't pass up an opportunity like that.

imo u should sell it. this is to protect urself from future problems. i sold my 240sx(had about 145,000 miles on it) cuz there was goin to be too much money i would have to put in for maintenance. that way i didnt have to replace many parts that were starting to go bad. goodluck with wutever u decide to do.

Like Juelz Santana says " No Homo Please" leave my ass out of this..I posted on your post in the 2nd Gen by my house there is Blue 03 CL-S that is gorgeous and there is a black TL-S also. I'd get the CL-S though it seems to be bit more nimble than my TL

The way I look at it is (cuz i was on the same boat) If you sell your car because you have a few problems with it, then you find a 2nd gen. What happens when you have it for a while and things start breaking on that. Or going out. They do have the same tranny issues that we do. Then your gonna have a higher car payment AND maintenance costs. IMO Keep your car. Pay it off then trade it in on something you want that is a little newer.

You have to remember. If you buy a used car and get a 7 year extended warranty, its 7 years from the date the car was delivered to acura brand new. So if you get a car that it 3 years old. You get the 7 year warranty, its really only 4 years.

The factory warranty I think is 4 yrs 50,000 and the trans is 7 years 100,000. Pretty much any kind of maintenance that may go wrong is covered, so that won't be a problem. The problems begin once the car reaches 100,000, I'm gonna make my decision at 95,000. Subbuzz I was in the same situation as you, but had more insentive to trade mine in since I needed 4 doors. My CL needed front axles, new exhaust, tune up and a paint job. I said with 127k miles and the car being 8 yrs old what for , time to stop being cheap and get what I've always wanted.

we may be the same person...i need a 4-door like you wouldn't believe...we have the mdx but the wife is not gonna drive the cl with all the "sounds" it makes. so i'm stuck with a carseat in the back of the cl till i can find something in my budget that i like...with a manual

$5000 for a 97 3.0CL with 145K+ is acutally a good deal to sell it. but its really up to you, if you really want to get a CLS and is comfortable paying more each month, then go for it.

I actually drove a CL-S a few times. The tiptronic one is bleh, nothing to write home about. It's very luxurious for sure. It's a very nice car though.

Now, the 6 speed CL-S, that's a whooooole 'nother story.

it sounds like your heart is already cheating on white lightning for the newer CL...I personally never planned to sell my 1st gen for any reason even though all my friends had faster cars..just loved the styling too much. But for you, you already seem set on getting the CLS, so take the leap if your pockets can afford it

Wrx wagon means turbo sleeper with serious modding abilities, the only problem its ugly as hell. I was looking at that before I bought my TL but couldnt see myself driving a car with bug eyes

THE NEW 2006 PLAN
i'm gonna replace this tranny and fix/finish up white lightning (rims/hids/a few other little things)by the beg. of summer.sell my 95neon with 19k for $2000/stack $$$ from job(should have raise by then). when my 1g is paid off/done ( by summer) stack $$ for like 3-4 more months then go put down on a black cl-s with navi with around 40-50k by 07. this way i, give the cl-s more time to depreciate, def know i am ok with the $$ flow, and gives me time to get some other things taken care of. in the end my 1st gen is gonna be the new beater and the cl-s is gonna be the official ride. only then i will be in official status

I had around 40k in cash that i was going to blow on a G35 coupe, test drove it, loved it but when it came to parting with the cash i couldnt. It is now in a roth IRA where it will stay hopefully until retirement. Yea im 23 and i have 40k i could blow on something that will only decrease in value or i could save and have literally over a million from that same 40 grand. Moral of the story, save the money you will appreciate it later (well thats what i keep trying to convince myself of). I am currently saving for a house and it sucks that my car is having problems and i may have to find somehting else but it is pushing 300K. Your car will make it, so keep it and get that tranny problem fixed Good luck

Sorry just saw you plan
