Project car?
Project car?
Hi all, im kinda getting sick of the ole CL being so slow, but i still love the nice interior, and the stuff i have put into it, but im looking for somethign faster as a second car. My computer science teacher wants to get rid of her '90 Crx si, she is the only owner and has done regular oil changes the car has 104,000 on it. I thought it might be fun to pick this thing up and have a car to play with. So to my question, what do you think i should pay for this car? the blue book is obo 2,000 i dont know yet if she has the 4 speed or 5 speed, and what options she has. If anyone has any input it would be great.
Crx's are light as hell. I say get it for as cheap as you can from your teacher, and then drop in a JDM B16 in it. If you attempt to go with a bigger motor than that, then it's gonna cost you a pretty penny since it wont fit.
I use to want a crx for the longest time, but then my head turned into the EG hatches (92-95 civic hatchbacks).
I say go for it. And have fun fucking around with it.

if you want a BEATER then pick up the CRX and
get some 15-14 inch wheels for like the same price u pay
for the whip... and call it a reynolds wrap..
if u are plannin on modding that lil thang... go 4 it ..
just dont do any EXTerior mods besides wheel and drop

I was in the same situation you are in so a friend and I got a CRX, I had a few bseries motors laying around and he got the car for 800 bucks and we've been having a blast w/ it ever since. The current motor in it is the CTR b16b and it's pretty built. The thing is a blast and would make an AWESOME project car no matter what these guys on this board say.
coo, glad i didnt get all flamed n shit.
i'll speak to her this week about price, and see what happens from there. i wouldnt try to make it look pretty, just go fast...
when i want to be pretty ill stick with the cl.

if you have extra money to buy a motor, than buy it, if not, then don't cause you don't want some slow POS sitting in your yard.

not true, a stock SI CRX would give our cars a run stock. ANd they are a BLAST to drive. Even if you don't have the cash for a motor yet get it and puts around w/ it and start putting work into it like gutting it and getting rid of the sound deadening stuff, etc.
you have any ideas what a gutted ( 1 seat, no ac, no unnessasary interior pannels, etc.) would run in the 1/4?
is it worth it to turbo the stock motor, or would you just swap engines?

I would do that if i had the cash. I kid near by, i DON'T know engine codes, had the teg GSR engine in one of those CRX si's and that thing was fast as hell. Always looked like it handled like a go-cart too, i'd like to fuck around with one sometime.....

well our car bone stock w/ all interior ran a 16 flat. Gutted and shaved and shit I bet you could get down to mid 15's. THen buy a 1,000$ b16a and you are lookin at high 14's no problem
I've owned 2 CRXs and loved them both! I had a 1984 (1st year offered) 1.5 liter, and a 1990 HF (also a 1.5 liter).
Niether was intended to be tuner cars, and were not modded. However, they were a blast!
I'd buy another one (however, I'd build the shit out of it)!
Here's the only surviving pic of my '84 1.5 CRX:

Now if it had a GSR motor in it i'd deal with the BS
