welcome to the forum man. i dont know what exactly is goingon with your CD player. sometimes the factory ones crap out. i would take this chanse to upgrade on the factory one. you will get better sound out of your speakers with the aftermarket.

i think you will also have better luck posting in the First Gen forum.

happy posting

Welcome to the board!

Sorry to hear about your CD problem.

Click on my signature below, and you will find a photo (or 2) showing my CD changer. It's located above the spealer box, to the left.

Good luck!

Yes,

The CD changer is operated (and powered) by the stock deck. There is a 12-15 foot M-Bus cable that runs from the back of the CD changer to the back of your stock deck.

If you have a CD changer, it should be mounted somewhere in the trunk. Mine is located where it is, because that's where I chose to mount it. The changer is a dealer option, and must be mounted.

If the stock deck works at all, put in a CD, and it should start playing immediately, if it doesn't, you probably have a problem with the deck. As soon as a CD is put into the player, the CD player overrides the AM/FM settings and the CD changer (if you have one).

You can check to see if an M-Bus cable is plugged into your deck pretty easily. Just (gently) pry the trim ring that runs around your deck, storage compartment (under the deck), and clock. Once that's off, shine a flashlight under the storage compartment. There should be 2 screws. Once the screws are removed, the deck should "pop" out. Look on the back of the deck, there should be a rectangular harness with many wires and a round antenna plugged in, and if there's anything else plugged in, it's probably the M-Bus cable. The M-Bus cable will have a round plug with 8 pins inside. If you don't have a CD changer, just unplug the M-Bus cable, and reinstall the deck. This should take care of the problem.

The code you are getting is indicative of a CD changer error (if it's a "3" error code). If you don't have a CD changer, then your stock deck should be looked at by the dealer.

Does your stock deck work at all? Does it play CDs and does the radio work?

yo man, this reply is coming in really late, but if it helps try and unplug your car battery for about an hour and plug it back in. I got that err-3 error when i accidently pressed in the wrong password for the third time. (You know when you gotta replace your battery, and you lose all the settings on your stereo + you have to enter the password to get it working). It worked for me. well hope it helps

Yeah, unplugging the battery does work. Never had to do it with my car but a friend of mines jetta had problems with his deck (it's not a factory deck tho), it wouldn't play CDs or anything. We unhooked the battery for about 10 minutes, hooked it back up and it worked fine

You know, I completely forgot about that!

I wish I would have remembered that before giving my long-winded response above!
