Playstation 2 install
Today I purchased and installed a 6.5" screen and a dvd player. The only thing else I had to buy to get this to work was a $30 piece called a fm modulater. It works great (except for some humming from the alternator ). I have a playstation 2 and want to hook it up, what do I need to get this to work? Do I need a "brain" to do this and what exactly is a brain if so? thanks

you'll need a power inverter... they can be found almost anywhere (like staples, radio shack, jc whitney...), you dont need a very powerful one, something with a 100 watt cont. rating is more than adequate. You can also get a Sony inverter (I think its intended for PS1, but I dunno if the power connection is the same, it should work) at like Wal-Mart that plugs into the cigeratte (sp) lighter or can be hardwired. Then all you need is an input on the monitor and a possible mounting place, unless you want to keep it portable/removeable.
You may want to check with Clarion, if I remember right they have an auxillary input adapter that works with certain head units, this would eliminate the FM modulator and give you MUCH better sound quality. Call or email them with your head unit model # and your dilemma and see if they have a solution.
If you have a PS2, how come you have a seperate DVD player besides?? j/w
Email me if you have any more questions or need a more indepth explaination.

Rick,
Ill get some pics up when I get a chance. I still need to mount the dvd player in the trunk, so I need to get a longer power cable. I was mounting it under my glove compartment today with 1/4" screws and somehow hit some part of the airconditioner. Now Im leaking what I think is freon. It sounds like someone is letting the air out of a tire in my car. I need to get this shit checked out . Theres more money down the drain

I think I have a cure for the humming noise. A few years ago, my brother had the same problem with his stereo. So, since it was involving a stereo and not a dvd player, I'm not sure if this will work for you, but here goes. When I went to find the piece to get the name, there were 2 slightly different ones, so I'm not sure which one he used...(1) an OMNI Directional In-Line Noise De-Coupler or a (2) 15 Amp High Quality Noise Suppressor Isolation Transformer. The names in italics are exactly what the products say on the label. Both of these two have RCA's in and out. I'm pretty sure my brother put it between the deck and the amp, so I'm not sure where you would put it. I hope this helps some. Just maybe ask your local store about a Noise De-Coupler or a Noise Suppressor Isolation Transformer. They will probably know what you are talking about. Good Luck.

1: bad ground connection.
2: signal interferrence. signal lines, aka rca wires, should be run throughout the car as far away from any other type of wire as possible.

I have the PS2 plus an in dash DVD player as well as a rear pass though mounted DVD player. I know it is excessive but the rear DVD player plays DVDr & SVCDr as well as being a TV tuner. The indash one is just part of my video screen. I dont like using the controller as a DVD remote on the PS2 and it also does not play burn VCDs. So there is my story of the reasoning behind the excessive DVD setup. I also got good prices on them (except PS2). The ladies do seem to like it though. But I do admit it is excessive
