whats up guys? i have a 95 impala ss but its KILLING me on gas ($60 a week) and i dont even drive much. Well i work at a dealer and they have a 1998 CL for sale and i was thinking of getting it as a daily. What problems should I look for when i put it on the lift? Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

you may not be able to see anything on the lift but be sure to check out the transmission well (if its a automatic). If it was in an area that has allot of snow and ice you may want to look for rust but besides that not allot else to go wrong

with that raiss I was sure you had a ram air hood to go along with it. i am thinking about building something like that for my Camaro with a ram air hood. have seen it give the Impala's some good gains

I noticed a big difference when I put it on over the stocker. I want a ram air hood but I'm not ready to dish $700+ for a hood

I will have to fabricate one for my car because its the 3rd generation camaro. Shouldn't be to hard though, just have to build up something and then build up with putty on top of that to get the correct dimensions and then fabricate it out of sheet metal

other than transmission problems(if a auto), and ignition recalls. the CL is a good car for DD. most questions can be answered in the noob guide.

any theft issues i should look at. for example, i know my SS, you can pop the steering column and the car is gone

half the people don't know what our cars are if you debadge. the weirdest response that i got was "is this an oldsmobile". but its not really up there in theft. :knockknock:

I think 98 has a chip in the key that has to match before it starts (what Chevrolet calls a VATS system, just the key doesn't have the pellet in the key like Chevrolets, it is in the head of the key) I have a 97 and it doesn't have this feature but I used to have a 98-99 instrument cluster in it and it had a light that was for the anti theft system (VATS) or what ever Honda/Acura calls it. I am not sure how this works since I don't have this feature but maybe someone else that does can chime in on how this works

so i was finally able to look at the engine and put the car on a lift. whole exhaust is RUSTY. other things i found wrong was tie rods had too much play, both outter boots were town, the radio is INOP (but anti-theft button works), and a small PS leak.

Now time to talk $$

Drove it around the block. when i step on it, it shoots to 4-5k before shifting. now my price would land around 3,900. does that sound about right?

4-5k is about right for the shift with vtec kicking in when stepping on it. Not sure about the price though, someone from your area will have to let you know about that one

I wouldnt pay that much for it unless it's in really good shape. It should shift lower if your easy on it.

well you said it shifted that high when getting on it, now if you are normal driving it, then it shouldn't be that high. But getting on it, yes thats about where mine shifts as well when I get on mine
