Painting Calipers

hey guys, i was just wondering... how many of you have painted your calipers? i was talkin to my friend at his car shop and he told me that i shouldn't paint them. instead i should powder coat them. he told me that the paint doesn't hold up as good. what do you guys think...or if you painted them... has it been fine since? oh, and if i paint them myself... do i need to take the calipers off or can i just mask everything away and just do it? i paint good, but i'm not sure if it makes a difference if i take them off first. i'm definitly doin it myself since hot temp paint/primer will only run me $10 and the autobody shop told me $250 to paint them, $350 to powder coat...

Our calipers are nothing great, $350 is ridiculous.
I used Rust-Oleum High Performance paint (flat black) from Home Depot for less than $5.
Mask off everything, throw on a few coats, done.

I bought a "kit" off of eBay for less than $20.00. It came with VDT High Temperature (900 degree F) Spray Paint, brake cleaner, rust cleaner inhibitor, and a wire brush.

The whole job took less than 3 hours. I painted them back in March, and they still look new today,

If I were you I'd STOP GOING TO THAT SHOP!!! They are trying to rip you off and feed you bad info.

$250 for painting????

They'll just grab a can of VHT paint for $14 and paint them, then collect the remaining $236 in easy profit!

I hate shops like that!

I called up one shop about lowering springs and he quoted me on some no-namers and when i asked what the cost would be for Eibachs he said like $800 for all 4!!!

Eibachs are frikin $250 TOPS!

Don't get ripped off. Those guys are not to be trusted...

I used that VHT paint. I painted mine blue... It was about 6 months ago when i did mine and the front 2 are wearing down because of having to take off the front wheels to install the CAI and all that...just wear and tear..thats all...but hell, $15 a can does 4 wheels, + 3 hrs....1 to paint and 2 hrs to let dry and it lasts up to 6 months....compare that to your proposed $250 bill. I'd do it myself and spend the rest of the money on a gun...then go see theose guys at the auto shop.
