Overheating

My 3.0's gauge gets to the half way mark then as I start driving it goes down. I guess when the air gets going, it cools it down. Is this normal? I don't ever remember it ever getting to the half way mark before. What can I do? Change the coolant? I've had the water pump replced recently with the timing belt so thats the only thing I can even think of right now. Help me people, I don't want my car to overheat.

i would say check your thermostat...if not..flush your system...my civic did that..when i sat at a stop light..it would start getting highed..then i would drive..and its fine........

new thermostat and fluid flush should do it

I'll try that out. Can't cost that much and my fan kicks on whenever it starts to get hot.

when i had my car several months back. it would overheat while driving in city traffic. there was something wrong with the fans. they wouldnt come on, and my engine would overheat- the water temp guage was all the way to the top. the fuckin antifreeze would boilover, and leak out. ive had that happen more than enough times, and it was bull shit.

It's the radiator fan they kick in every so often and so without them you have to be moving at least 30 mph for your car to cool down.

It's about $80 at Advance Auto parts for the fan, and the rest is DIY, pretty straight forward.

Another way to tell if it's the fan is to take something and tap it a bit. It'll start up but once it kicks off won't start up again.

The radiator fan is the one on the drivers side. The condenser fan is on the passenger side.

The fan kicks on with no problem. I've checked it over and over. I think it might be what LiloJo414 said about the thermostat. I've never had it replaced so it can't hurt. Anyone else here change their thermostat and see results?

If it is the thermostat, that's an even cheaper fix!!! Basically the thermostat opens and allows water/coolant to cool the engine when the rated temperature is reached. If it isn't the fan then yeah lilojo414 is most probably right. Everything should be less than 20 bucks.

Good luck,
James

Thermostat from Acura is $29 and they want $50 for labor. I don't like the sound of that. Where should I take it? I don't wanna try it myself and I don't have the time or tools for it.

it makes water wetter

ok it says it doubles the wetting ability of water
improves heat transfer
reduces cylinder head temperature
reduces rust, corrosion and electrolysis
cleans and lubricates water pump seals

can reduce coolant and head temp by 20 degrees. but like i said i havent put it in yet but redline products are good quailty

Check your coolant level. This happened to me a few months ago.
